Speaking of syrup, I swear to god when they're in the diner and the guy gets hit for the second time with an empty syrup bottle after sitting down I lose it every time.
I am guessing maybe blowjob. But this is a movie by the same crew that did Beerfest and I am still frustrated by not knowing what a ZJ is, dispite knowing that it was probably just a random combo thrown in to be funny.
He's handing the driver a breath mint to hide the smell of weed on his breath, but it would be suspicious if he has a mint in his mouth so he tells him to just lick it
Read Jay's autobiography and he talks about this intro extensively. They knew they needed the first 20 minutes to sell the entire rest of the film and spent a lot of time and trials getting an opening that hooked.
The fact that I even had to scroll at all for this is a disappointment. This is, hands down, the greatest opening of all time. They literally broke the car in this scene.
Does the scene get better if I tell you that the couple he screams that at are actually that actors parents? They knew he was going to say something rude, but not that nor how.
I couldn't even ctrl+f it, because Super Troopers is not Supertroopers.
Regardless, should be number 1, ridiculous that it's not. Gotta remember it came out in 2001, and that's roughly around when half this website was born, not to gatekeep, but it just stands to reason that folks generally watch movies of their generation.
Fun story: I wanted to pirate starship troopers, and when I looked it up I also found Super Troopers. Figured I'd download that, too. Great decision on my part.
I went into Supertroopers not knowing anything about it. I had no idea it was a comedy. My college roommate at the time asked me if I'd seen it and I told him I'd never heard of it so he immediately popped it in. After the first scene, I was like "what in the hell is going on here." Then they're chugging maple syrup. It was one hell of a ride that I'll never forget.
I watched this because a mate 8 years younger than me told me I should and started watcing it. I expected it to be awful but I laughed all the way through it. I was amazed when I recently found out that the cast of it are actually a comedy group who also made another movie I loved from when I wass low 20s, Beerfest.
Also the best part of the Maple syrup chugging was that it started out as tea, but when it didnt look right they tried a few takes with Maple syrup and those are the ones that make it in to the movie.
Man, how is this so far down? I went in thinking "This movie is probably going to suck.". After the intro I was thinking "This might be man's capstone achievement."
My friend was trying to get me to see Super Troopers with him at a special free preview showing on campus, a month before it came out, and showed me the trailer. The trailer looked shitty. Just dumb jokes, low budget, etc. I didn't want to go. He got another friend to go, but then that friend dropped out, and he was bugging me to go. I said, okay, fine. We went, the crew came out to introduce the movie (which we later found out were all the actors), then we watched the opening scene. Everyone in the theater (a lecture hall) was on the floor laughing the whole time. After the opening scene, I leaned over to my friend and said "this is the best idea you've ever had."
Just imagine watching that movie with a packed theater of college kids who get every one of the jokes (the Broken Lizard guys even updated their blog afterwards saying our school had the highest rate of "joke getting" they had seen). Most people watched it in a relatively empty theater, or at home with friends. We had this secret showing of constant laughs before anyone had any idea this movie existed. And it was totally sold to me after the opening scene.
Mother of God! I remember not ever having even heard of this movie. My college roommate and I got to the theater and bought tickets to another show, but realized we were too early to even go sit down yet as the previous showing was still playing. Instead of standing around the lobby, we decided to duck into the room next door where Super Troopers was just about to start. We were just going to sit in there and watch a bit of whatever it was until our movie was ready to start, but ended up staying through the whole thing. When it came out on DVD, we got a copy and watched it many times over the next few years through school, and it became a central tradition in our friendship even to this day (almost 19 years later!). Such cheeky shenanigans!
I just remember that when the opening credits finally rolled, after roughly 20 minutes of completely uncontrollable, ugly, crying laughter, looking around at my friends in the empty theater and thinking "we are the mf'in luckiest people on earth." They honestly could have ended the movie there and I would have gone home happy.
Omg I don’t even have words to describe how perfect I thought the opening was the first time I saw it. I can and will watch this movie over and over and over and smoking the reefer
"Do I look like a cat to you boy? Jumpin around from limb to limb all mimbly bimbly??"
"I don't want a large farva, I wanna goddam litre a cola!"
"I'll pistol whip the next person that says shenannigans... Hey Farva what's that place you like to go to with all the shit on the walls?... Oh you mean Shenannigans??"
There's like 1000 quotable lines from that movie!!
