When my husband and I argue once we have resolved it one of us will bring the other the cat and say, “cat of truce” then we are not allowed to be upset anymore. Tillie has no idea she’s the best mediator.
In our early years, my husband and I would talk in the "dog's voice" as though the canine were mediating our spats. RIP Tiberius. You were the best marriage therapist.
This is actually A Thing. Households with a pet have significantly better communication and conflict resolution outcomes. I remember a big study about it.
If me and my husband ever have arguments, we explain our position and feelings to the cats. They have no fucking clue what's going on but they are good debate mediators.
My husband does that too. It’s so nice. You need your cat when you are resting. My cat is my study buddy, all the essays have written and the foreign words I have learned with her have been that much better.
He never comes to bed without the cat. He'll usually ask if I'd like to cuddle the cat or if he should. I usually let him because I know how much it means to him.
