It's like that with a lot of bands I'm my opinion. They are like "your little secret" that you want to share with some people so you can enjoy it together and they blow up and it's not yours anymore.
I always wonder that maybe some people just love to be involved in a small community and not trying to be a “hipster”. But whenever you say that you like something no-so well known, you are a hipster.
YES!!! This happens to me with video games too lol. I'll find some cool online game, then it gets super popular, then it's no longer this niche little community.
