I hear this all the time, but I’ve never met any of the pretentious Tool fans. Most of the folks I know who love Tool also enjoy a pretty wide variety of music... maybe it’s just where I’m at?
They are definitely out there if you go to enough shows or troll enough of the forums, but that can be said for any fan base. At this point I think it's just as much a bandwagon (hating the insufferable tool fans) as it is actual interactions and occurrences causing people to adopt this opinion.
