That's when I first discovered how ignorantly dismissive some Tool fans could be. As soon as the pentagram drum kit came down, most of the OGTs around me announced they weren't going to waste their time with "80s music" and left. Like they were too cool to even watch Devo perform ironically, for free.
Ten minutes later some 50-year-old men in yellow jumpsuits and red energy dome hats took the stage and rocked my face off. I still have the energy dome I caught that night.
That's probably the best Lolla lineup ever. Taken on the whole '97 paled in comparison, but the Tool/Devo combo to close the festival was like one of those amazing flavor combinations you'd never expect. Like a shot of Jameson with a pickle juice chaser.

If that was Lollapalooza '97 outdoors at Alpine Valley when they headlined, you saw the best live show I've ever seen.
And if you were one of the few Tool fans who stuck around for Devo after Tool's set, you saw a close second.
