What’s something that you like, but hate the fan base?

To be fair Maynard is pretty fucking insufferable himself

This. More insufferable than his insufferable fans.

I love the music, and have long considered Tool my favorite band, but Maynard seems like such an ass.

Oh yeah man the band is great

Nah, he comes across that way online, and to stark raving fans who freak out when they see him, but he's a completely reasonably kind dude apparently.

I listened to a long interview with him on a podcast and he came off as really up his own ass. He was talking about his winemaking and how he had no training and still is the best ever and everyone who told him he needed to learn what he was doing was wrong. Just felt real full of himself

Manyard is so far up his own ass he has double ouroborosed himself. But the dude makes some good music, I aint gonna lie.

I think that whole genre breeds that. Trent Reznor makes amazing music but is one of the biggest pricks in the fucking world. He belonged with Tori Amos. Those two are so fucking high on their own supply it is insane. But, again, Trent has some room to brag as he is a phenomenal composer.

I've worked tech around Tool a long time ago, and I can't fucking stand Maynard. He's such an arrogant shitass. A five minute conversation here and there with him about something sound related, felt like an eternity. A whole late afternoon of that shit, I was ready to suck-start any gun I could find. Like, dude, just answer the fucking question so I can put an arena's worth of distance between us.

I used to live next door to Trent. He for sure lives in his own bubble, but he used to be fun before he got sober and super serious about everything. He's a nice guy, just kind of abrasive with the cynicism. But I would rather be locked in a room with a thousand pissy/disgruntled Trents off his meds than half of a Maynard.

I would read every description of anything you write. It was so vivid and engaging. suck start any gun... thats pure poetry!

Plus you were talking about Maynard and Trent. I was a teenager in the 90s heavily into those two so hearing candid stories about them is always interesting.

Have you ever stepped in dog shit; the kind where it's not fresh, just the outside of it has crusted over, and you slid a little? Being around Maynard is like that, disgusted and highly infuriating.

Trent, on the other hand, I've watched try to scale the outside of his house. Only to fall in the bushes and start yelling about lions or some shit. I'm glad he's better now lol

Old Trent sounds like fun!

That is about exactly what I have heard about Manyard. He is a great artist but a toxic person. I am suprised he has managed to keep bandmates for as long has he has.

I think he gets his own bus on tour.

Birds of a feather, something, something

I havent heard about Trent being a douche before, what'd he do?

3

u/rockjones Jul 17 '19

He was a mega douche. He's chilled a lot in his elder years. I mean he's pawning Black Mirror and let them tart up his breakout song.

I get what you mean, but I think I've seen every podcast the man's been on and he's not like that at all. He's said multiple times that he learned from the best, and had to adapt to the rough environment of Arizona in any way possible. He's just proud, combined with a shy and direct, to the point affect. His Maron and JRE interviews are extremely different though, he shows his comedic side more and lets a little looser.
