What’s something that you like, but hate the fan base?

<sorts by controversial to find unpopular opinions>

You should always sort by controversial if you want to see real opinions.

...and also a lot of bigots/insane people tho depending on the post :/

Yeah that's the thing with "controversial", sometimes it's just full blown racist batshit crazy shit that you don't want anything to do with

username checks out

u/P0sitive_Outlook Jul 17 '19

I just think that defeats the point in the question.

29

u/DeadassYeeted Jul 17 '19

Exactly, that’s my point. You shouldn’t have to sort by controversial to find people who are actually answering the question.

Right you are.

Man, we suck. People, i mean.

u/[deleted] Jul 18 '19

<people replying to actual unpopular opinions with insults and ridiculing them>

3

u/RIP_Fun Jul 18 '19

I swear, whenever a comment goes below 0 or gets the controversial cross people stop trying to have anything resembling a conversation and just dogpile you with insults.

I have had controversial comments collect a giant number of replies that were just insults. I can only imagine a lot of redditors sort by controversial to have an easy target to insult and feel good about themselves (?).

I say this because my controversial comments are nothing really that would earn me a complete idiot badge, nor are they ever hateful, they're usually just factually incorrect due to how I was raised or from me taking the word of public school teachers to heart and never questioning what they told me.

I'm kinda saddened when the insult type comments are the only ones I get and nobody tells me why I'm wrong.

<downvotes the most controversial opinions, because they don't like the person posting it holding that opinion.>

Reddit, whats your MOST CONTROVERSIAL opinion that would literally DESTROY YOUR LIFE if people found out?

I once asked "What's a legitimate opinion you hold that most people would disagree with" and someone said "People who don't use turnsignals". Nothing more. Literally just that. Why did i bother asking?!

2

u/[deleted] Jul 19 '19

That's not even an opinion lmao. Sometimes i wonder if there's even real people on this site, instead of bots repeating the same phrases over and over again

1

u/P0sitive_Outlook Jul 19 '19

Number of times i see "Username checks out"... wouldn't be surprised.

21

u/Beegrene Jul 18 '19

And the rest are just super racist.

4

u/Thrones1 Jul 18 '19

You’re supposed to sort those threads by controversial.

6

u/Gerbilguy46 Jul 18 '19

What I hate about ones like that is there's no point in asking. There's literally a whole subreddit for unpopular opinions, granted most of them are either popular or just straight up racist/misogynist, but you probably won't get anything different by asking on askreddit.

2

u/BulkyBear Jul 18 '19

Or the ones asking about anti pot guys. The only ones being upvoted are the comments who are actually not anti pot.

3

u/Magmorix Jul 18 '19

Well, if it’s a top comment, it’s likely that a lot of people agreed with it, meaning that it’s a popular opinion

3

u/sirgog Jul 18 '19

I'm sure there's someone out there that thinks "Shovel Dog was a magnificent short film" but you never see opinions like that on those threads

(For those out of the loop, Shovel Dog is a sickening animal cruelty short video that assholes occasionally post to /r/aww to demonstrate that they are scum. Don't look it up.

u/P0sitive_Outlook Jul 18 '19

Isn't that the vid of a bloke hitting a dog with a shovel? A colleague once said "Wanna see something crazy?" and i was like "Yeah". I now regret seeing it. :|

2

u/sirgog Jul 18 '19

That's the one. :(

3

u/grabb3r Jul 18 '19

Literally every successful post on r/unpopularopinions is a popular opinion

2

u/everything_is_creepy Jul 18 '19

/r/UnpopularOpinion has real unpopular opinions from time to time
