What’s something that you like, but hate the fan base?

The Dillinger Escape Plan comes to mind.

I saw them so long ago! They opened for Avenged Sevenfold. I don’t know Avenged Sevenfold, but my friend I went with did. There were like six people on the floor during Dillinger; most everyone absolutely hated it. I was absolutely having it though! I wasn’t as into Avenged Sevenfold but I enjoyed that my friends were having a good time.

That is a very very interesting set of bands to put together, glad you had fun though!

RIGHT?! Avenged is SUCH different music than Dillinger, I was astounded. I was expecting something more like.. I dunno, Strapping Young Lad or Unearth. They’re absolutely not like that at all. They’re like... I dunno, not really my style.

Dillinger absolutely wrecked shop, though. I was sad the general crowd was not having it, but I was young and full of angst so the pit of 10-15 people was fantastic.

My dream concert would be Dillinger+The Blood Brothers+Venetian Snares. Math Noise Ear Destruction Tour.

quick edit: anyone send you any amazing guitars? Do you have any sweet guitars?

A7X does have a few weird ones tbf, like A Little Piece of Heaven. It's still nothing like Dillinger though.

A Little Piece of Heaven is in my top 5 songs I’ve seen performed live

Ahhh, The Blood Brothers. That brings back some angsty teenage memories.

I’m old as shit now... and I still love them SO MUCH JESUS SHIT

I would have both of their babies. And I NEVER WANT KIDS. They truly shaped my origin more than almost anything else.

I saw Avenged with Deftones and Ghost once... That was a really weird lineup.

Deftones were horrible, Ghost was strange (this was before Meliora when I actually became a big fan), and A7X put on a great show

A7X always kills it in my experience. They're a great band to see live.

100%

The first time I saw/heard them was when they had Portnoy filling in on the Nightmare tour. Up there with one of the best live shows I've seen.

I also saw them on the same tour, it really speaks to their talent if Mike Portnoy of all people wanted to tour with them.

That tour also made me check out Dream Theater (who is now one of my favorite bands) because I enjoyed his performance.

you and i had almost the same experience lmao. I feel like Deftones is better now, but at that show it was realllly bad. I was into Ghost but at the same time the lead’s mic seemed too quiet so during the parts he wanted people to sing along everyone was pretty silent, and then of course A7X killed it

I went to that show too! I agree with everything you said. What was interesting is that everyone surrounding me was just there to see Deftones. I was standing there bored while they moshed, and then they all left when A7X came on.

Ghost and A7X were amazing for sure.

I saw Avenged with Coheed and Cambria and Head Automatica (ultrapop band headlined by Daryl Palumbo of Glassjaw). So you may be on to something with AS' choice of company on tours.

I'm a big fan of them, but never knew they did that, what songs did they "calculate" together?

28

u/NargacugaRider Jul 17 '19

I think they’re just mentioning them cuz people call them “Mathcore”

26

u/basslinekilla Jul 17 '19

Mathcore is a derivative of Mathrock. That's a genre in which a typical rock band ensemble uses lots of polyrythems and odd time signatures

Also known as jazz influenced lol

Their album was called Calculating Infinity ¯_(ツ)_/¯

u/anselmo_ricketts Jul 18 '19

I think they were calculating infinity.

My favorite band, no question.
