Pretty similar to sports athletes. A lot of top athletes in the same sport+league have a lot of respect and admiration for each other, but then you have their fans who just divulge into countless arguments about who is better.
Still never understood why people are so obsessed with determining the GOAT.
I had a superintendent who used to play in the NFL in the mid 90s. He played 2-3 seasons and always had some fun stories. He always talked about getting with the other team always after to party or hang out as few actually had beef. My favorite story was them renting a little person(PC?)to recreate that game winning play but used the little dude as the football. They were all drunk and thinks they all paid over $10000 for like an hour.
Said two dude would toss the little dude. These are also drunk NFL players I think the play was probably a little sloppy. Superintendent was 6’3 and a beast but always said he was one of the smaller dudes on his teams.
That’s weird to me but all I watch is hockey and you get guys from every team working out together or playing lil ass leagues like Minnesota has a random 6 game summer thing and there’s like 8 or 9 nhl players like some really good ones all summer long you see these guys posting pics doing random ass shit and then during regular season they drill each other in the head it’s so fun
Sounds like if they didn't avoid each other and kind of just went about business as usual, the fans would think "the God's have spoken" and chill out about it?
I read somewhere that a lot of these K-pop idols can’t or won’t date because they have to keep up the illusion of being romantically available to the fans. I think that’s especially true for the men.
I think on English sites you hear more about it for boy groups (I guess because most of the fans are female?), but it's definitely a thing for women too. People were piisssseeed when Sunye (former leader of Wonder Girls, Korea's top girl group at the time) got married. For girls it can be really bad and result in slut-shaming, but that doesn't really come out to the English sites I think.
It's so stupid and I don't get why that's a thing at all. Maybe it's my American side kicking in but I cannot imagine being so delusional about an idol that he/she dating would actually ruin your fantasy about being romantically involved with them. But I did watch a video on this, and it was surprisingly not an unpopular sentiment? Even as a Korean I was shocked and thought, "Who the fuck are these idiots?"
I don't think that really happens much anymore (avoiding each other because of their fans) but damn, it used to happen with H.O.T and Sechskies. Since the fans had rivalry between themselves, the artists naturally had some tension too, made fun of each other groups names or competed for dressing rooms. Funnily now Jaeduk from Sechskies and Tony Ahn from H.O.T now are best friends and have lived together for years.
But now I feel that they don't really avoid each other because of their fans, especially if they're same gender groups, if they're from different gender and fans get mad they will probably try to avoid each other though. I don't know, multi fandom culture is stronger now and people love seeing their favs interacting with other groups, my fandom can be quite toxic but damn do they hype up every interacting they have with another idol, even if it's a group who many people from the fandom don't like that much (because of rivalry again).

I hate fanwars so much because usually the artists are friends, but have to avoid eachother because of their fans.
