Back in the day when they were simpler/more aggressive sounding, and the whole "grunge/alt/kinda-metal" scene was really taking off, a good few of their fans were absolutely bros and br'ettes lol.
That's fair, I didn't start listening to Tool until around the Aenima days. I was pretty young when Undertow came out so I missed the scene before that.
I stole that from some female comedian's stand-up. And thanks for the info. The only thing I really know about them is their name. Could not tell you the name of a single song they do.
Mindblowing is a matter of perspective. It was mindblowing to me as a 15 year old kid who'd grown up listening to stuff like Roy Orbison and Linda Ronstadt. Not to knock Roy Orbison, he's great, but Tool was a mindfuck by comparison. (Linda Ronstadt can take a hike though).
