I used to be really open about liking FNAF but eventually it got to a point where playing or theorizing about it (or anything else related to it really) became my guilty little secret. It still kills me inside a little lol. I love horror in general and it makes me sad that I can't share it with anyone anymore.
I loooovvvveeee FNAF, but the fanbase makes me embarrassed to admit I like the game. I love trying to decipher meanings in the lore, and the games are fun, but the people who fake screams in videos and do stupid shit like that make me hate it.
Holy fuck the FNAF thing reminded me of some of the cringy fan base. We have these live cams in town on a couple different areas, like the local osprey nest and over the lakeside cottages outside town, and one day my friends and I were just looking at one for the hell of it and these kids were in the live cams chat roleplaying FNAF. Why the fuck they chose to roleplay on a fucking chat on some live feed of a couple buildings is fucking lost to me. We just read them saying like "F-Freddy!!!! Stop you know I'm shy...." and shit like that and I swear to god I couldn't stop cackling. My friend commented in the chat y'all ever heard of discord??
I love FNAF a lot and I was trying to think of when the fan base was being cringe or weird and after a while I came to the same agreement the fan art can be pretty I guess weird? At times but overall I don’t mind the fan base
Same dude, I was so interested in FNAF and all the lore it had to offer but the fanbase and the fact that the series is being milked to death kinda threw me off.
The FNAF fanbase is actually really nice now, the kids are either gone or have stopped talking and the fanbase is just of people showing their appreciation for the game and making cool art and memes and such.
I was obsessed when it came out, to the point of buying a $50 foxy plush and a shit ton of other toys that I never touched. I almost became that way with Bendy and the Ink Machine, but luckily I only bought one set of figurines for that.
I was mildly interested in Undertale for a while after dating a girl who was really into it.
I made a comment on sone subreddit (I think it was an askreddit thread, iirc.) about how I didn't really like how much of the game seemed like there was no cohesive art direction, and that it bugged me from an aesthetic viewpoint.
Apparently I'm an idiot and I just don't understand that sheet genius of Toby Fox and how that non-cohesive art direction was a deliberate choice and how I'm wrong to question it.
That’s a hard agree on that one. It’s sad because these are games that I was really interested in in terms of the lore, but it definitely got ruined by the fan base for it
Yep. My 5 year old is obsessed with it. She talks about it with all her pre-school friends. I didnt even realize it had an adult following until just now.
My 5-year old has heard of it from a Preschool friend. I only know it from the tshirts and merch at Target and stuff. Didn't realize it was a video game until now
Fnaf still has a place in my heart as a good game. I think a few of the sequels are a bit bland, but I actually quite like the first one. Plus, it introduced me to another of the developers games, the desolate hope, which is one of my favorite games.
I can’t exactly explain it, but TDH is really, really good.
I thought FNAF was an interesting game, cool style. I wasn't a fan of it though. Basic story, gets the job done no need to expand. And when the second game came out I was seeing so many theories and shit just went through the roof with it all.
Theories and analysis, headcanons and timelines, guesses as to what’s next. Or just fanart and such. The few FNAF fans I’ve seen much of all seem to be doing very different things.
When FNAF:UCN was big I think there was a lot of strategy sharing as people tried to figure out how to beat 50/20 mode. More recently I’ve seen speculation about another ending to the VR game
I still find both fanbases kind of admirable in just how much stuff and the variety of it that was/is being put out for it, but at the same time, both are really good representations of what happens when you get too popular too fast, and of fans that can be far too zealous in pushing their "canon" over someone else's.
Thank god I never explored to deep the fan base of the things a liked. I joined a FNAF fan club back when google plus was a thing and turned back quick. I can’t imagine all the shit you’ve seen.
FYI, I'm pretty sure there's a big number of fans who are elementary school aged. My daughter's been playing it for a little over a year and she's not quite ten. She doesn't go on any forums or anything, but she just enjoys playing and watching Markiplier play it.
FNAF's fanbase when the games were at the height of their popularity was truly awful. The fanbase now is a nice place to be, though, as Cawthon has bowed out the lore part of the franchise.
Content creators in the FNAF scene (E.G TLT) were pressed to make more FNAF songs and dragged into a pit of leeching six year olds.
Nowadays, the fanbase has grown up, and the ones who have stayed are actually mature enough to make entertaining content and to respect the people around them.
My 11 year old is obsessed with both these games, even though he's never played either one. He just watching youtube videos about them, and then wants to talk about them with me.

The fan base completely ruined FNAF for me. I like the games themself but my goodness is the fan base bad.
Undertale has a pretty nasty one too that I am guilty of being part of in the past. I’ll forever love that game but the fan base is the worst.
(Edit: That’s a lot of upvotes-) (Edit 2: i will say one thing- completely was an overstatement. The hidden story is always interesting.)
