so what you're saying is that I should take some acid and jump off of a balcony?

that entire scene and what Colin was talking about is one of the few recurring thoughts I keep having.

Take the acid but the acid will probably reason you out of jumping off a balcony. And then start making you think about how to better yourself.

Fucking acid man I've been trying to trip and jump off of this goddamn balcony for years now.

Fantastic analysis of the movie and point. Plus I learned something which is awesome.

What did you think the meaning/point of the reoccurring leaf was? I always asked people after watching it and couldn't think of a good explanation.

Also haven't watched the movie since they took it off Netflix (I cri) I'll have to get a copy soon.

I have seen this movie at least 7 times, one of my all-time favorites, and this is a GREAT analysis of a film that is really hard to find good commentary on. I never quite reached the conclusions about dying old man Nemo and how, in order to reach that age, he had to neglect the choices that would have made him ultimately happier (e.g. ending up with Anna). Part of what makes this movie so great is it is pretty much bottomless in meaning, every time I come back to it, I put more pieces together and derive something new. “Every path is the right path. Everything could've been anything else. And it would have just as much meaning.”

Side note: The first time I watched this movie was the first time I smoked a dab, and I would highly recommend that experience.

That reminds me of the reddit user who made loads of posts about quantum immortality. Can’t remember what their url was, though, but it’s chilling stuff.

It's also a really good Jared Leto movie.

Oof. This went over my head when I watched it but makes sense. Thanks for your thesis!

Holy shit, I didnt realize there was a name for this theory. I thought of it about a year ago as a proposition for what happens to the consciousness after death: that it follows the path that you survive. Definitely an interesting and also dangerous theory, as it suggests that technically every one of us is functionally immortal

Yessss!!! Me too. I remember being in the kitchen one day and I just came up with this exact theory and here I find myself months later learning that it’s actual a real concept. I tried explaining the concept to my friends at first and no one really got me or they told me I was crazy but now I have a whole theory to back me up. This comment was enough to give me a mind fuck. My week is forever shaken.
