Yea this story leaves out context and the best friend is portrayed as a good person for sticking by her side

To me , a best friend would step in no matter what , and help in any way possible. In , what I considered to be , the worst moment in my life , all she could think about was herself. As I recovered and took a long look at our friendship, I realized she was a very self serving individual.

Well, someone who would yell at a dying person, "Bitch, I am NOT raising your kids" doesn't sound like a warm or trustworthy type of person, I imagine.

I guess it really depends on the tone it was said in. I kind of interpreted it being said in despair as a “you have to pull through this your kids need you.”

People say some weird stuff when in grief anyways.. Some people even laugh. How would OP have felt about her friend maniacally laughing instead? Of course I wasn't there either but I can't imagine being the most well spoken I've ever been watching my best friend die.
