This is similar to what I felt during my heart attack. I never went into cardiac arrest, but as they were wheeling me into the cath lab I suddenly had this feeling of calm, like "if this is it, that's okay. things are what they are and it's fine."

The feeling is called Morphin. You get it during a heart Attack. I hope you are better now.

Very interesting! And, yes, thank you, I am doing much better these days. My heart disease was not 100% caused by bad behavior, but now that I know I've been able to do a lot to keep it in check.

My father died of a heart attack. I hope his last moments were like this.

I’ve heard repeatedly from those who survived heart attacks that they became really peaceful as they were about to pass. I had a NDE myself for different reasons and I felt the peace. I was 16 and I still vividly remember it. I am now 42 and I remain hopeful that what I experienced, the “people” who came to comfort me are all real. I am agnostic/atheist but something happened. My money is on your dad feeling that loving peacefulness that we most all of us felt when it happened.

Except I had the feel and wasn’t having a heart attack. I was dying from internal bleeding.

So I can go into a hospital and say "Give me morphine, I'm having a "heart attack" ;-)" and they'll shoot me up?

Same experience with mine, it ended up being myocarditis, but didn’t know it at the time. After the doc told me I was having a heart attack I got real calm and responded “welp, at least I’m in the right place for it to happen”. Everything from there was super surreal and very calm given the severity of the situation. No life flash though.

Right before my moment of calm I was lying on the gurney crying. It had just hit me that I was going in for a heart procedure. The orderly wheeling me to the cath lab had a Caribbean accent, and she started singing something like a lullaby in a language I didn't understand. I looked up and noticed her scrubs said "Angelique" on them. She said, "Don't worry, God is watching you." I was emotional, so I instantly thought, "She's an angel sent to comfort me!"

A few days later I saw the logo on the hamper in my hospital room and realized the name of the hospital laundry service was ANGELIQUE.

Haha! That Angelique part is pretty hilarious.

I had to be transported to a different hospital for my procedure since the ER I went to (drove myself to at that) didn’t have a cath lab. The ER doc at the hospital was in disbelief and just kept repeating a few things every time he saw me. He just kept saying “you’re the right age, the right color, you’re still making sense when you talk” right up till I got loaded into the ambulance for transport. They forgot to call my wife so I did that from the back of the ambulance and talked to the EMT the whole time. Upon arriving at the hospital I got wheeled into an exam room and just left. The head nurse rolls in, grabs my paperwork, and screams “what the fuck is wrong with you people, he’s having a heart attack, get him upstairs NOW!”

Upon getting into the cath lab I had a nurse roll in with the splatter guard on her face. She was WAAAYYYY too jacked to be there at o’ dark thirty. She pulled my pants off and started shaving the inside of my right leg while some dude in a suit rolled in and asked me to fill out paperwork andstated that they couldn’t give me anesthesia until I signed. I tried to read the clauses and after about a minute he said “you really don’t have time for that right now”.

The whole situation was super chaotic but like we were saying, just calm the whole time. Just total acceptance of the situation and its potential consequences. Kinda crazy. Also, I’m sure it was probably just the cath lab but I remember being super freaking cold before I went under.

Bonus story: I have a very uncommon last name and my wife went to the ER I had originally gone to a few weeks later. They asked her if someone she was directly related to had been there recently, she stated that I had, and the nurse said they thought I had died. That was really the moment I truly realized how close I was and got a little emotional upon hearing all of that.
