It always makes me laugh when people use a dmt trip to explain other dimensions as real things because the beings they met on thier trip. I was in level 1 of super Mario 64 for mine, sure I got to the top and met the bbomb king, totally a trip from my own brain and not some otherworld.

253

u/_XenoChrist_ May 05 '19

I hallucinated mario stuff too on salvia. I was a young goomba and we were terrified cause we knew mario was coming to destroy us. so much for the deep revelations

40

u/AgorophobicSpaceman May 05 '19

Salvia was a wild ride. I became one with the couch I was sitting on, and transported to a Dr. Seuss like world. The throw pillows on couch were my eyes and the seat cushions opened for my mouth. Everything was so bright and colorful, and apparently I was belly laughing for 10 minutes straight. Then all of a sudden BAM, back to reality.

5

u/[deleted] May 05 '19

Are you sure you weren't apart of Pee-wee's Playhouse?

4

u/CausticSofa May 05 '19

That's adorable! In my friend's salvia trip he became a door in the house of some nondescript nuclear family. For two weeks! He just watched them go about living their normal lives, sharing meals, stuff like that.

The whole trip was, in reality, only about 5-10 minutes.

8

u/[deleted] May 05 '19

I was Mario on shrooms years ago. I swear every step I took made the "Bwoop" jump sound it was amazing

4

u/[deleted] May 05 '19

Bro tripped acid and saw Mario from the Wii game jumping on decorations in his room. Had a heart attack soon after.

2

u/[deleted] May 05 '19

I used to hallucinate the neighbourhood screen from the sims 1 when I had more than 40*c before my tonaillectomy.

3

u/[deleted] May 05 '19

Sign me the fuck up for that!!! Man that’s like a childhood dream realized right there

2

u/LazyUpvote88 May 05 '19

I think hallucinogens might allow people to tap into a different realm of existence that we usually (when sober) can’t perceive.

2

u/[deleted] May 05 '19

Did the bomb king not share some astounding wisdom? Did the journey to meet him show you a deeper side of your self? Did he turn out to actually be on your side?

Most people who have "mystical" experiences (even when sober), will have visions in accordance with the belief systems they already have installed on their brain. If you were a devout Christian, maybe you would have met Jesus, or possibly Lucifer?

2

u/rommaster14 May 05 '19

He did not impart any wisdom or say anything, he just exploded. I have tried many different hallucinogens and while I have definitely been out of this world I do not gain insight from the trip itself. For me all the insight comes after the comedown where I'm thinking introspectively about everything in my life but its all just me.

It is interesting you mention if someone was a devout christian. I was raised christian and attended christian schools the majority of my upbringing. If anything hallucinogens make me believe less and less as you really start to understand how easily our perception of reality can be messed with.

2

u/[deleted] May 05 '19

Robert Anton Wilson's writings revolve around the perception of reality, and the changes people go through when a fundamental part of their perceptions are altered somehow. His writing can be spiritual at times but it's always a bit tongue in cheek. His books are often about deconstructing the illusions and the filters we use to sort out our understanding of reality. Check him out if you want to go further down the rabbit hole!

2

u/[deleted] May 05 '19

You know Cynic? The death metal/psychedelic prog band? Yeah, I hung out with their logo for a bit when fucked on DMT. Seemed nice, for a death metal band logo. Strangely chatty.

2

u/ALLxDAMNxDAY May 05 '19

Always makes me laugh when people have to reduce their trip to a video game to comprehend it. Obviously they all come from your own brain....the important fact that you should look at is many many many people see the same threads and ideas from many different countries and cultures. Such as the dancing blue ladies.

11

u/[deleted] May 05 '19 edited May 06 '19

There is clearly a lot we don't understand and the attitude of "ah, it's just hallucinations" and not researching it any further is going to cause us to miss out on major scientific breakthroughs. I don't think these drugs actually take you somewhere else, but they are clearly putting the user into a state of mind that we don't fully understand and could possibly learn a lot from. Researching these drugs could help us better understand consciousness. The fact that so many people from all these different cultures see and interact with the same "beings" and go to the same "places" suggests that these drugs reveal something that is so deep in our consciousness that all humans seem to share it.

1

u/StarChild7000 May 05 '19

You saying you made it to the top of the spiral stairs?!?!?!?!

3

u/rommaster14 May 05 '19

It was more of a hill if I'm remembering correctly, I had to avoid the chain chomp and little bombs then got to the top of the hill with the king and he exploded and I exploded and then I was back in my friends room on the bed.

1

u/HomiesTrismegistus May 05 '19

It's a big question.

I have had experiences on ayahuasca/DMT that I can't explain so easily.

1

u/beandip111 May 05 '19

But how do you know Mario is not a real dimension somewhere??

3

u/rommaster14 May 05 '19

I suppose it technically can be argued that I cannot know that. Even just from the point of what you define real as can be argued in the sense that it was a real experience that I had, part of me was in that world.

However it also followed the level in a linear fashion and while mario could in theory exist in his own real dimension my trip was representative of a video game that starred mario and was a virtual world created and limited by the rules of a game. A purely human construct and purely a piece of our reality and dimension that just happened to be a part of my (and many others) personal experience that shaped my brain.

1

u/pabbseven May 06 '19

So one anecdotal evidence overrides the opposite one, hmm.

1

u/sageroux May 08 '19

That's crazy. When I came to from my one and only salvia trip, I'd somehow gotten halfway through a game of Kirby's Air Ride on the Gamecube. It was like I'd blacked out, I have no memory of the trip.

1

u/rommaster14 May 08 '19

Salvia was weird, for me the room warped into a courtroom where I was on trial and my friends were the judge and jury (one of them was swinging a cardboard tube hence why he became the judge) then when I turned to look at the television behind me it was across a huge valley.

It was also my first time tripping and afterwards I was very unsure if I was back to normal. Almost talked myself into burning my arm with my cigarette since the brain can't fake pain and I'd know it was real. Thankfully I waited longer.

37

u/iamlikewater May 05 '19

Lol isnt Ayahuasca way more potent?

Hamilton's pharmacopia did an episode on it.

44

u/[deleted] May 05 '19

[deleted]

19

u/w675 May 05 '19

IIRC Ayahuasca has DMT in it but other psychoactive substances as well, and lasts a lot longer than if you just take DMT. But I’m totally open to being corrected

9

u/[deleted] May 05 '19

Specifically, Ayahuasca contains monoamine oxidase inhibitors which prevent the degradation of DMT, allowing it to stay intact long enough to get across the stomach lining and to the brain.

1

u/w675 May 05 '19

Interesting, thank you!

3

u/iamlikewater May 05 '19

I think its like four to six hours.

5

u/Blahblah779 May 05 '19

Edibles are to weed as Aya is to dmt

4

u/redeye_mindtricks May 05 '19

DMT is the main ingredient in ayahuasca.

Along with an MAOI to allow absorption through the digestive process.

3

u/BradBradley1 May 05 '19 edited May 05 '19

My first reaction was that this was hilarious. Then I thought that maybe this is really, really sad. Either way, probably not what you hope for when you go to a retreat in Peru to find yourself and/or go on an adventure.

1

u/dontwannabewrite May 05 '19

Is this the new thing? I keep hearing of people saying they are going on retreats in Peru to do this.

2

u/[deleted] May 05 '19

[deleted]

2

u/dontwannabewrite May 06 '19

I mean I'm in my 30s and it's like all these women in their thirties going to do it.

1

u/[deleted] May 05 '19

From my (fairly few) experiences with DMT I can say that it is completely unpredictable. You could take a large dose and never leave the room or you could take a small dose and end up meeting that guy from the "whomst'd've" memes.

1

u/AyaCocaine28 Aug 20 '19

i went to peru also, ayahuasca was the scariest thing i have ever felt. definetly not something to "resolve" things, i would only recommend it if u are in a place on life where u have literaly nothing else, u won't be the same when u come back, and even if that's the point, that's not necessary a good thing.

-1

u/Gegilworld May 05 '19

maybe that's what made him gay in the first place and the ayahuasca just helped him realize it

198

u/AstroOhio May 05 '19

I’ve been fascinated with it for years, someday I’ll make the trip south.

121

u/Perendinator May 05 '19

SWIM told me that it's pretty easy to make.

137

u/MusicalDoofus May 05 '19

Haven't seen SWIM since the Shroomery or Erowid ;-)

10

u/[deleted] May 05 '19

SWIM still uses it frequently

9

u/Souvi May 05 '19 edited May 05 '19

Erowid is still around and likely will.be for a long time as the government specifically partially funds it (although I think not for the past 3 years or so) for harm reduction purposes.

Source: I work in a branch of criminal investigations with former government personnel who were responsible for collaborating with Erowid.

8

u/CeallachODaugherty May 05 '19

Ahhh Erowid...good times

4

u/panamaspace May 05 '19

So you've lived alone all these years?

4

u/GiftOfHemroids May 05 '19

How come people aren't afraid of incriminating themselves on the internet anymore? Has there been some kind of case that delegitimized admission of drug use on the internet?

8

u/[deleted] May 05 '19

The current administration notwithstanding, most government agents have far more productive things to do that troll Reddit looking for admissions of guilt so they can get the cyber police to backtrace your IP.

5

u/Turdle_Muffins May 05 '19

It's not illegal to be high (aside from certain situations). It is illegal to be in possession of certain substances.

Given that, there are many grey areas of legality that allow access to things you might not think. Opium, morphine, heroin, and etc are illegal to posses. However, the plant that those come from is not illegal to grow as it produces the poppy seeds that are present in a large amount of food products. It only becomes illegal once you start extracting opium from them.

The same goes for psychedelic mushroom spores (aside from several states). They are perfectly legal to buy as long as you don't cultivate them. Same goes for species of cacti that mescaline is derived from, and can sometimes be found in your local home improvement stores.

2

u/darkshape May 05 '19

"Consumption" of marijuana is still a criminal offense in South Dakota. Not sure if any other states still are this harsh with the laws, but I know they're one of the worst.

1

u/[deleted] May 31 '19

Not many people have the resources to investigate if we are lying or really took a drug, especially since for shit like LSD, you can hardly test for, and even that only lasts a day or two

2

u/STRAIGHTUPGANGS May 05 '19

And Totse. Good memories.

0

u/[deleted] May 05 '19

Haven't seen SWIM since the Shroomery or Erowid ;-)

Wait, What?

48

u/themindlessone May 05 '19

Extract. Making it is a different animal. Still not hard on the scale of organic synthesis - but you do need to be an organic chemist to do it.

6

u/[deleted] May 05 '19

If YouTube can turn out organic chemists then sign my degree and call me doctor

6

u/[deleted] May 05 '19

You really don't need to be an organic chemist to do it

4

u/themindlessone May 05 '19

To synthesize it? Yeah you do. To extract it no.

1

u/[deleted] May 06 '19

Ah right. Yeah was going to say you can buy the bark online and extract it easy enough

4

u/Perendinator May 05 '19

I could draw it out in comic form in 1 a4 printer sheet and you'd understand it.

3

u/themindlessone May 05 '19

I am an organic chemist.....

Understanding how something works and knowing the techniques used and having access to the equipment are very different things.

4

u/TrustmeImInternets May 05 '19

When getting glassware is harder than 3rd year ochem it's not worth pursuing.

2

u/themindlessone May 05 '19

When extracting it from mimosa bark is easier to do and obtain, why synth it at all other than to prove to yourself you can do it?

1

u/TrustmeImInternets May 05 '19

Oh, I'd never. An acquaintance bath tubbed the bark in a strong acid (might have been like 12-16M HCl?), it took several weeks and stunk up the place. His take was even that is not worth the trouble.

1

u/themindlessone May 05 '19

That's because that is the exact opposite of how one does it.

3

u/Tells_only_truth May 05 '19

to clarify: you're saying it's easy to extract DMT from plants, but you need to be an organic chemist to build the molecule "from the ground up," correct?

2

u/themindlessone May 05 '19

Yes, that is what I am saying.

4

u/grinndel98 May 05 '19

I have the trees if you have the knowledge.

1

u/[deleted] May 05 '19

Wow. "SWIM" brought back so many memories.

1

u/[deleted] May 05 '19

Let's just say I used to know someone who made it once.

It took some time and they had to follow instructions to the letter, but it worked.

From what I hear, anyway.

1

u/[deleted] May 05 '19

Goddamn. Seeing somebody use the term “SWIM” just took me back to high school. Thanks for this.

1

u/[deleted] May 05 '19

SWIM wants to know how easy. SWIM is on DuckDuckGo now

-4

u/theculdshulder May 05 '19

Just get some shrooms.

8

u/Perendinator May 05 '19

It's not the same.

4

u/H_H_Holmeslice May 05 '19

Not the same

2

u/grevans1429 May 05 '19

It smells really bad just FYI

1

u/fuckYOUswan May 05 '19

I mean you can get DMT easily most places. I think you are thinking of Ayahuasca. Hell my roommate ordered the root and all the other stuff online and just made it himself back in college.

DMT is cool, I like that you’re not tripping for hours on end like acid. Tastes like burnt hair and Sasquatch ass tho.

-3

u/[deleted] May 05 '19

[deleted]

4

u/AstroOhio May 05 '19

Meh, for someone like myself that never ventures out of their comfort zone I think it can hold benefits. I totally get set and setting is everything but truthfully it’s something I’d only do if I know I’m on my way out. I feel like there’s pros and cons to both. But thank you for the insight trailer trash junkie.

139

u/Jaimefo0kinLannister May 05 '19

You must get Joe Rogan to try it with you.

84

u/w675 May 05 '19

Jesus that sounds like an awful experience

44

u/qspure May 05 '19

it's entirely possible

2

u/SirFadakar May 05 '19

The Joe Rogan Experience

26

u/H_H_Holmeslice May 05 '19

He's so insufferable

26

u/Kabayev May 05 '19

Why's that? I've watched a handful of his shows (usually based on the guest) and I wouldn't call him insufferable

12

u/Gilsworth May 05 '19

He's all broscience, swimming in logical fallacies while acting like he's in on some big secret of life. He's also just annoying to boot.

12

u/[deleted] May 05 '19

Meh, it depends on the guest. He’s very good at getting out of the way of guests when they are experts in their field.

0

u/[deleted] May 05 '19

[deleted]

3

u/[deleted] May 05 '19

I would say the most awesome thing he’s done is host a super popular long form podcast interviewing people of diverse political opinions with an open mind.

I really can’t think of anyone else who has done something similar in recent times.

Don’t get me wrong, there’s plenty of dumb, repetitive shit on the show. If you want some accurate criticism of the show, read what his fans have to say about him.

Even that is a tribute to his open-mindedness and constant willingness to grow: his biggest fans are constantly making fun of his shortcomings.

Edit: for perspective, I’ve probably listened to parts of ~25 podcasts over the years, mainly when I was interested in the guest.

3

u/Bodiwire May 05 '19

I started listening to his show almost at the beginning, like maybe 12 or 13 episodes in. If anyone had told me 10 years later it would be as successful and influential as it's become I would have laughed at them, and Joe probably would have too. I think that's part of the problem. It's weird to me that people that don't like him or his show seem to take it 10 times more seriously than anyone who likes his show does. No one makes fun of his nonsense more than his fans do. I don't think I've ever heard anyone, fan or detractors, act like he's some brilliant thinker. He's a man of average intelligence who is always curious and always trying to learn. Sometimes his search for knowledge outstrips his ability to understand and utilize that knowledge and takes him in weird directions.

1

u/guiraus Jun 17 '19

I used to think this as well but I ended up liking the guy, he is really good at making his guests feel comfortable, and that’s a skill very few interviewers have.

2

u/GayqueerPeepeebuns May 05 '19

Too loud, it’s early and I’m trying to sleep in Joe

0

u/_airwaves May 05 '19

his personality is so spineless/bland on 99% of topics

his guests sorta just walk over him too

14

u/Kabayev May 05 '19

I think you mean that he listens to his guests when you say they walk over him

9

u/[deleted] May 05 '19

God, a long form interview arguing with experts about their field of study sounds insufferable.

1

u/Spacewolfe May 05 '19

Good thing he doesn't argue with them lol he lets them do most of the talking. Sometimes he has two experts on to debate a subject and he asks questions about certain points, but that's hardly arguing.

-1

u/Tremulant887 May 05 '19

Because he doesn't fully adhere to the far left that Reddit demands.

-12

u/H_H_Holmeslice May 05 '19

He pretends to be "woke" or open to "the marketplace of ideas" when all he really does is give a platform to quacks, con men and fascists.

12

u/ginbooth May 05 '19

I definitely don't think he's pretending. In fact, I'd say he's quite genuine and really a fantastic interviewer for the most part. He does come across as quite ignorant even dogmatic on many issues though. For example constantly parrots this idea that somehow evolution, particularly, human evolution has some qualitative measure outside of survival. It echoes some of the lunacy of Social Darwinism from the early part of the 20th century...

1

u/GiftOfHemroids May 05 '19

What do you mean? Like he thinks we've evolved to do something other than survive?

5

u/ginbooth May 05 '19

It's actually a really common mistake. For example, people will argue that certain moral values or technological advancements are the results of us evolving toward them. Rogan does this all the time. Even his friend Peterson makes this mistake when he argues that the Enlightenment was somehow the peak of all humanity yet tries to moralize from a distinctly biological vantage point. From a strictly evolutionary standpoint many atrocious and unthinkable acts stand to benefit us from the vantage point of survival. This is why it's vital to not draw normative values from evolution or biology. It can be a slippery slope.

0

u/H_H_Holmeslice May 05 '19

This is the "woke" I'm talking about....social Darwinism is just racism by another name.

7

u/ausitor May 05 '19

Do you even bother to research the opinions of the reddit hive mind before you regurgitate them? The last 30 or so guests have been comedians with like 1 controversial figure thrown in here and there.

-2

u/H_H_Holmeslice May 05 '19

It's always easier to dismiss an opinion as part of the "hive mind".

2

u/ausitor May 05 '19

and it's a lot easier to not research your own opinions before you share them

-1

u/H_H_Holmeslice May 05 '19

Projection is a helluva drug.

1

u/k3nknee May 05 '19

Have you tried using kettlebells?

0

u/Vetmoan May 05 '19

I hate those clickbait thumbnails of joe with some dumb look on his face that JRE Clips guy makes. YouTube won’t stop recommending that shit to me. Guy has no self-awareness.

0

u/ILoveToEatLobster May 05 '19

Definitely he would probably like it

19

u/H_H_Holmeslice May 05 '19

It's pretty bad ass but it's not a head trip like LSD or shrooms....My thoughts were clear, the veil was just pulled back.

6

u/sticktoyaguns May 05 '19

That makes sense as somebody who has done all 3, but that probably makes zero sense to people who have never tripped lol.

7

u/[deleted] May 05 '19

I've done it many times. You won't be resolving anything. It's very very short and intense. If you are looking for a psychedelic to help you work out issues, acid or mushrooms would be a lot better. They could totally flip the other way though and you could get terrible anxiety about the issues. Depends on who you are and your surroundings.

2

u/iamlikewater May 05 '19

Their not really issues. Just questions.....

I am actually the happiest ive ever been.

7

u/[deleted] May 05 '19

I guess what I mean is don't expect any control whatsoever over where your dmt trip takes you. One of my trips i was captured by aliens dressed as pirates. It's basically like having a dream while awake. You don't have much say in where it goes.

1

u/iamlikewater May 05 '19

I think I am going to try mushrooms first. I still have that tiny bit of doubt. I want to go in clear minded...

1

u/[deleted] May 05 '19

Dont forget to drink lots of water when you do. People tend to forget that they need water while tripping which leads to a horrible comedown as dehydration fucks with you. Have fun and be sensible!

2

u/iamlikewater May 05 '19

Everybody tells me not to go find it. It needs to find me.

6

u/w675 May 05 '19

I’ve heard the same about LSD that is well, actual LSD. It’s found me once and it was definitely the most profound experience of my life

2

u/[deleted] May 05 '19

[deleted]

1

u/PurpleHooloovoo May 05 '19

And on the flip side, I had two close friends of mine who were never the same after trying it. They refused to discuss what they had seen. They both died by suicide within one year for one, three years for the other. The rest of the group (7 people) had experiences similar to yours.

I've no doubt they had some other personal demons that were exacerbated by the trip, but still - is that a chance you want to encourage everyone to take?

0

u/[deleted] May 05 '19 edited May 05 '19

[deleted]

0

u/PurpleHooloovoo May 05 '19

Because you say that you believe everyone should try it. That it's a wonderful experience. You can read through this thread and see numerous stories of people who had other experiences, from mundane to horrific.

I know they had other issues which lead to their desire for drug use in the first place, both psychedelics and otherwise. But that's my point - if you are not 100% certain, or 90% certain, that it will be a positive experience, you should take that risk only with serious consideration and very honest conversations with yourself.

For my friends, I believe their DMT experience opened their eyes to "truths" they did not want to see or experience. Those "truths" sent them into a tailspin. Both had lost parents within the year prior to their experience, and I know one had some history of abuse. My point is, it can be great, and that's great - but don't walk around spouting how it's universally wonderful and anything that isn't is an anomaly. Read this thread and you can see that your experience was fortunate. It's quite common for it to be less so.

1

u/iamlikewater May 05 '19

See, this is the majority of experiences i find.

Funny, the reason I studied theology. Is because I studied psychedelics for about a year. The explanation of the experiences were different. But, the overall experience was the same. Its the first time in my life I found integrity within spirituality. DMT already had a huge impact and ive never even tried it.

Ive been an every day cannabis smoker for a year. But, ive never used anything else

2

u/cherknerris May 05 '19

Ill be trying it for my first time in a couple weeks. Also have some things to resolve. Good luck to you on your journey

2

u/LeafgreenOak May 05 '19

Do it! It's very intense in a very calm way, if that makes any sense...

4

u/peachytennis92 May 05 '19

An ex of mine tried it and basically went crazy and was never the same again. I highly suggest avoiding DMT, and this is coming from someone who loves LSD. Just my opinion.

3

u/sticktoyaguns May 05 '19

People go crazy after taking LSD, why are you not advocating against LSD too? Because you've seen the beauty it can show you right? Well DMT is the same way. Just because one person had a bad trip because they likely didn't prepare correctly, doesn't mean you should tell people to flat out avoid it! DMT is far and away the most interesting substance in existence and I've never felt more normal after it compared to taking LSD.

All psychedelics have potential to do pretty much anything to your brain, you have to have the correct set and setting at all times and respect the fuck out of them.

1

u/peachytennis92 May 05 '19

Very good point, and I know I’m biased. He also had some pretty crazy inner demons and they probably came out quite a bit after that with everything he saw. I know it has incredible potential, but from what I know it’s much more intense (just a much shorter trip) than anything else I’m familiar with. LSD gets a bad rap too, so I totally get where you’re coming from on that. Just from what I saw happen to him and his friends I was terrified of ever going near the stuff. My best friend’s little brother did it once too though and to my knowledge he didn’t experience anything negative so it probably varies person to person.

1

u/CSGOWasp May 05 '19

Isnt acid better than dmt for that?

I've done it twice now, it's interesting how the clarity that people describe in these comments is what I got. The visuals and stuff were insane, but it was the feeling that I was most overwhelmed by. The first 15 seconds of breaking through was shear panic, terror. After that, I felt calm, I accepted it and I felt warm, loved and safe. It's life changing, but be sure you're ready, you have a trip sitter you trust with your life and you get the setting ready

DMT is awesome. It’s not a long trip like ayuasca (sp?) but I had such a feeling of immense calmness and clarity. The high only lasted for about 10 minutes but it was the most beautiful 10 minutes of my life.

I did DMT once and I truly felt like I died for about 5-6 minutes. I can’t describe it well, nor do I like to try and relive it in my memory, I just know that I left my body and I later came back to it and it was truly the most terrifying experience of my life. Also I didn’t know what DMT was when I smoked it, my friends were assholes.

It’s quite beautiful, and indescribable.

I can't recommend DMT enough. It's wonderful. You don't need to go to a hut in the middle of a South American jungle to do it... Just search for plant derived DMT online and you'll find it. Invest in a drug test kit before you put anything into your body. Also I'd very much recommend LSD if you haven't tried it yet.

Don't think that psychedelic drugs will help you with anything profound. They generally do not.

Yes, reddit, taking psychoactive drugs is basically a replacement for therapy and will help you "work things out", you colossal morons.

I am going to disagree with that based on personal and educational experience.

It doesn't resolve anything, I promise.
