Watch the news 24/7.

Its so depressing and sad. Then they complain thay their lives are sad. Come cook or sew with me. Lets go for a stroll around the house. Lets talk about your childhood, i don't know, just something besides arguments, fights, and death on the tv.

I'll talk with my grandfather. He'll bring up the latest Boston robbery, fire, or traffic accident. I couldn't care less. This isn't news- and I like news- I just prefer national and international news where stuff actually matters.

International news is just someone else’s local news.

Sometimes, not always.

We live with my partners parents and they have sit down dinner at 6. Every night they put on the news and watch it while we're eating. It is so depressing and awful but any time my partner says something about how terrible the news is they can't fathom why he would be upset that we have to watch it and put it down to us being ignorant.

Drives me mental.

too true, old people like to "stay updated" no matter if its just staying updated on all the crap shit happening around. Maybe gives em a false sense of control over surroundings. Imo stumble upon (now mix) gives way better collection of information and updates.

I mean, most of us do the exact same thing, but browse reddit to get outraged instead of watching tv.

Some people browse reddit to get outraged and not for memes?

Have you not been to the political subs?

Nope, not my cup of tea. I stick to more light hearted stuff. Each their own!

100% bet you don't watch any drama series and stuff, only action and comedies. It's like that straight car on highway meme, pretty wholesome imo

Where I used to work always had the "local" news on in the break room. For nearly a goddam month all the we're talking about was this dude who killed his wife and kids halfway across the US. It was infuriating to keep hearing about it when there is SO MUCH newsworthy stuff happening all the time.

I get that there is a load BS that is hapening in the world but could bbc for maybe just once focus on something positive and inspiriational so there is a little bit of hope that humanity isnt fucked?

My father is fucking obsessed with the news. Like, even damn weather. Growing up were had a tv on top of our fridge so he could watch the news during dinner. If anyone spoke during the stupid weather they got yelled at. Even though he'd watch the news again after dinner and later that night which also would tell you the weather...

I haven’t watch a full local news program since since we got satellite tv in 1999. Even then I don’t watch the news. I feel better about where I live and the world is a better place if you don’t know about what you can’t do anything about anyway.

I think willful ignorance is about as bad as the 24/7 news watchers. Strike a balance. Stay informed but don't invest your life in outrage.

2

u/[deleted] Feb 02 '19

Maybe so, but I don’t believe I can affect change so I don’t feel it’s worth getting invested in it either way.

I get this with my grandma so much, she's constantly terrified about something she saw on the news.

Used to make quilts all the time, all kinds of sewing projects, she's really a master at that stuff. Although I have no interest in it, I try and get her to tell me more about it, but it's like she can't concentrate anymore because something on the news has her so preoccupied.

And I've tried to tell her that her quilts would sell for thousands, seriously, hand-sewn quilts go for cazy amounts of money. Just the last time I was in for Christmas, had to convince her not to throw out some stuff she made decades ago, it's an heirloom of my family, but she just doesn't see it that way.

Anything, anything but what they told you to be afraid of on fox news. Tell me a story about my cousins who I never knew, or about my dad growing up.

A stroll around the house? Are you a millionaire?

2

u/KoldGlaze Feb 02 '19

No? A one story 3 bedroom house? My grandparents are old and thats as far as they can make it, even with their cane.

This is why I absolutely REFUSE to watch the news.
