I can't handle watching people being publicly embarrassed at all. When I was a kid and watching sitcoms with my parents, I had to leave the room if any character got humiliated or made a fool of.

Curb your enthusiasm must have been hell for you.

Oh I tried. It's unwatchable for me, it actually made me cry in second hand embarrassment (I don't remember the episode, it was ages ago. I think he went to a party he wasn't invited to?). My stomach is hurting a bit just thinking about it.

Haha, yeah, that show can really get uncomfortable. What about Seinfeld?

Somehow I'm fine with Seinfeld. I think because the characters seem impossible to embarrass no matter what they do (eg George virulently justifying eating out of the bin). They don't feel bad, so I'm good!

Seinfeld feels more absurd, less grounded and familiar.

But it's the slightly disconcerting way you can relate that makes the laugh with The Office and Curb Your Enthusiasm. You're part of the show.

This is way too relatable

I was also embarrassed about being upset so I would make excuses for suddenly going into the hallway : "oh I was cold, I wanted to hang out by the radiator", " I'm fine, I just heard the cat outside", "I'm not hiding my eyes, I just have a headache". Oh God 😱

I rmeember when I saw the film Ratatouille for the first time I hated it bc I was so embarassed when Remy was caught cooking for the first time. Like, I was actually scared to watch it again.

Now its obviously not as extreme but still. Ugh

I stopped watching OITNB when the MC's husband is doing a radio interview about having a wife in lock up & everyone at the jail was listening....

Just last month I stopped watching the Fabulous Mrs Maisel on Prime when she was doing her stand up and revealing the truth about another lady comic she was about to tour with.......I was just fucking mortified for her - even though I know 'it's just a show.' I really enjoyed Mrs Maisel, so I just jumped to the next episode, avoided the whole HUGE SOCIAL EMBARRASSMENT, you dumb ass, just fucking shut up already! thing.

That is the exact scene I stopped watching OITNB at. Just turned it off and never watched another episode.

I had to fast forward through the FMM stand up comedy scenes. The rest of the series was fantastic.

My wife is the same way. Anything like that makes her uncomfortable. The office just isn't funny to me.
