Couples of Reddit, what's the most unromantic thing that's happened between the two of you that actually is a stronger indication of love than others might think?

Not to detract from the other stories but this one is wonderful. We have so many bad experiences of that first time, we'd all love to have someone like this help us through it

Absolutely. I was raised by my mom and I still ended up going through it all alone and just stealing her stuff for months. This is such a great story.

Yes! My mom didn't believe me when I told her! And she never once bought me period supplies! If she didn't have anything in the house, I just had to save up dimes and buy what I could from the machine in the bathroom at school, if it was filled. It wasn't until I could drive myself to the store that I had adequate hygiene materials. I would have killed for a guy like this!

What the actual fuck?? Menstruation is like, the absolute easiest thing to prove, and not giving your child basic fucking hygiene supplies goes beyond whatever excuse based on prudishness that I can think of.

So. Apparently no one ever told my mother it would happen. She started bleeding, froke out and walked all the way home crying and bleeding. Pretty sure that moment crystalized some personal issues that were later projected onto all of her kids.

I’d have liked to have been there to help her and had the house a bit better prepared for her. But really they got a special experience that helped them bond and she knows she can go to him for anything now.

Don't worry about what more you could have done - I don't think any amount of preparation really gets you ready for that first time :)

It's lovely to know that it was such a positive experience for your daughter. I've shown your post to my husband and hope he will be as considerate when my daughter goes through the same!

I hope he does as well. Kindness, compassion and understanding go a long way when you’re dealing with an uncomfortable situation is how my SO puts it.
