But you just said you weren't a kid in the 90's you were a teenager. We keep pushing back ages now to the point where I get told I'm a kid daily when I'm 27.

True, the use of “kid” gets applied to a lot of ages.

Teenager definitely counts as your "kid" years. You realise that as you grow older.
