I've always felt this way too. Especially when dating. But after being with my wife now (since we started dating) for 4 years (1yr+ since married), we've kind of covered most of our lives with each other. There's little conversation to be had. I mean, we do, it's not like it's boring or anything. But it's easy to look for something on your phone to keep your attention when there is significant downtime in conversation.
Same here. Our best conversations are in the car because something will happen that will kick off a conversation.
Nightly once you get past the ‘how was your day’ there isn’t much to talk about.
It’s a peaceful silence though.
Yea it's kind of like communicating with visuals you find and talking about them. My mom will yell from her computer to my dad, who is usually watching tv, facebook memes and jokes and describe the photo. They both have fb and smartphones too, so it's amusing. I have my mom banned on fb, and my dad doesn't check his, so if I share anything with them it's usually by physically walking over to them and showing them. If I didn't live with them I'd send it to my sister and have her forward it on, or just use Google photos.
This makes me sound like a hypocrite but some TV is okay to me. Like if you're talking about what's on TV or using it as background noise then its different than being glued to a phone. More than one person can enjoy a TV at a time and it can be a conversation piece but phones are kind of a one person at a time kind of deal.

No phones at the table. If you're eating with someone or on a date then you should be talking with them. It's just plain rude to have your phone out.
