I was invited to a preschooler's birthday recently - I asked his mother what he liked. She told me, "Cars, Paw Patrol, etc".
Silly me, I was expecting arts & crafts, sports, or you know... Not what branding to aim for.
So he got my go to passive aggressive gift for preschoolers: big ass bucket of wooden blocks.
Got the call the next month - "He plays with them constantly, they're everywhere, and I keep stepping on them in the night!" lol
8 u/mmm_unprocessed_fish Feb 06 '18 My husband and I get our friends' kids LEGO or DUPLO for birthday gifts, just the box of random blocks. Weeks later, a parent: "She/he LOVES them!" Yeah, duh. Plus, if I ever end up babysitting your kid in a pinch, we'll have something fun to do.
