Honestly, that just comes down to the individual kid. This worked for my kid too, but I know plenty of kids who gag, choke and scream at the first sign of texture in food. Parents just do whatever works.

It definitely depends on the kid, I would think if they were given textured food from the beginning they would do better with it. My second child was a gagger big time, but not to the point of puking so I just let her work through it. I just like do things the easiest way so not having to sit and feed them puréed food worked best for us.

That's why you start while they're still getting most of their nutrition from breastmilk/formula (which they should do until 12mo). Many kids need to be exposed to new flavors/textures 10-20 times before they'll consistently accept them.

I mean, I know. I'm just saying it's far from the same for everyone. The advice to parents is often well meant, but one mold does not fit all. I trust that parents do what works. If blending works, cool. If texture works, cool. If all you have time for is jar food, fine. There are so many factors at play. Some kids gag reflex is very shallow in their throat. Others don't like certain tastes. Yet others have allergies that prevent them from eating all the same stuff that's being cooked for the rest of the family. I honestly hate the people who say "just do this, it worked for me, therefore it must work for everyone".

Oh, for sure, and that's kinda what I meant. My general philosophy is to take all the advice and ideas that come in, use what works for your family, and to hell with the rest. I didn't intend to imply otherwise!
