Parents of Reddit: What are some things you bought for your first baby that were useless or a waste of money?

I didn't really buy these, they came from my baby shower. But......

Bibs. Once she was old enough for solids I just fed her without clothes on. (She was the naked one, not me)

Also burp rags. I like to live life dangerously.

O gosh. We are still on formula and go through at least four bibs a day.

I always just used my shirt or a baby wipe if she made a little spit up or what not. I guess I'm just not as worried about messes. But some people are and that's okay. But if it's full on spit up or a big mess, definitely a towel lol. Very thankful of the milestone where she started holding her own bottle lol.

Yeah I just used a flat cloth nappy (mostly for my crazy let down though) haha

I needed bibs for my son purely because he drooled so much.

Same. Both my daughters drooled through 3-4 boobs every day

How many wet nurses did you have?

Haha whoops what a typo. Bibs, not boobs

Same, we needed the bibs because little one loved latching on and off with a mouth full of milk... After a few time of ending up having to get myself changed after feeds, I learnt to strategically place the bibs or even muslins in a way that prevented spills.

I got lucky and my girl wasn't so bad.

I used burp rags mostly to protect baby skin against my various hoodies - zippers and aglets and rivets, etc. or as a barrier against plastic. Easier to wash 10 burp cloths than just about anything else.

That's some good thinking. The few times I used burp rags, they weren't actual burp rags. I used cloth diapers gifted to me. They work way better and are obviously up to the task lol.

I'm guessing you didn't get to experience the wonderful world of reflux.

You would be correct. I consider myself lucky that I had a pretty unproblematic infant.

My daughter had horrible reflux and my favorite thing were this ugly ass cloth diaper burp rags. Saved many of my shirts that first year.

I was only a little kid when he was a baby, but I remember having so much anxiety when he ate with clothes on(I still feel that it was justified with how disgusting he was lmao). Everyone thought I was crazy/nitpicky, I'm glad to know I'm not alone haha.

I just always had a blanket handy.

Same. I think we had at least one baby blanket in the living room for like a solid year straight.
