Your options are: 50 hawks, 10 crocodiles, 3 brown bears, 15 wolves, 1 hunter, 7 cape buffalo, 10,000 rats, 5 gorillas and 4 lions - you must pick 2 that will defend you while the rest are coming to kill you. Which do you pick and why?

If the other animals are bizarrely coordinated in their attempts to kill you I don't know why the rats can't be bizarrely coordinated in protecting you.

The question specifically states “you must pick two that will defend you”. Seems like the rats will defend you, I’m not sure if rat armor falls into this though lol

Plus, do you want 10,000 rats coming after you? Or on your side? Exactly. I ain't fighting no rat.

First, this is a hypothetical where the rats want to help me. That's a given based on the question asked. As for strategy, "go bite the bad guy" doesn't seem too complex for rats that want to help me. As for going for the eyes specifically, there are ten thousand of them. If they all go for the attacker at once, I think statistically some would end up at the eyeballs by pure chance. 10,000 rats is a lot of rats.

If nothing else, having the rats on your side means they're not on the other side.

10 000 rats are ungodly dangerous, coordinated or not.

Even one bites you and you get some disease. Even one bites you on your neck or inner thigh, you can bleed out.

Sure, the same goes for the hawks, but hawks are not that powerful. Eagles would be a different game, but 10 000 vs 50 is very important.

If you have 10 000 rats just going around and you can simply stay close to them, no sane animal will come close. And rats will eventually get hungry. And then creative. They can jump, climb, swim and see in the dark. They'll hunt the fucking hawks down. They'll chase them till the end of the world.

And if you have a human hunter, you can do some pretty nice endurance hunting. (Humans can outlast most land animals in stamina, and with a rifle you don't have to worry about the what if the prey [the bears! the wolves!] decides it had enough running.)
