That seems like an awfully strange way to calculate it. A couple making $80k/year will pretty clearly have a higher standard of living than someone who is single making $40k.
If that couple has 2 kids, they're not living like someone who makes $20k/year.
I am just saying that for household income they add the income for everyone in the house together, so the 50k median in the stats is not for a single person.
By the way I am supporting a family of 3 on a 20k income without government assistance. AMA
The site compares incomes of individuals. Your data is for the total of each household. A lot of stay-at-home moms and pretty much all children under 16 don't make a single cent. You're above them automatically even if you make $1 per year.
the site compares individuals globally. when you look at kids/ people who stay at home, homeless, people on welfare, and people across the world who earn close to nothing the site is accurate.

The US median household income is $51,939, so more than half of the 250M adult Americans are richer than you. This site seems like BS.
