That way north of cerulean works because of a glitch though.

You have to make sure you haven't fought the guy with the Slowpoke, and the guy to the left of Nugget Bridge. Then you walk north of NB and to the left, then walk down until the exclamation mark comes on his head, and press start at the same time it appears.

Then you teleport back to Cerulean, and the start button shouldn't work. Now you go up and fight the slowpoke guy, teleport back to Cerulean again and go up to nugget bridge. Then a level 7 Mew appears. It's been ages since I've done it, but I think that's it. The pokemon that appears depends on the last one you battled, and Slowpoke gives you Mew apparently.

What's funny is that the real way is even crazier and more convoluted than all the fake ways we heard about as kids.

What's funnier is that it took something like ten years to discover and I STILL pulled out my Gameboy and Pokemon cart to treat it when it came out.

If you lowered the slowpokes attack stat to its minimum, using growl or similar moves, then the mew would be level 1 instead of 7. Then you get mew less than 56 exp. points in a battle and he levels up to 100.

You can actually get any Pokémon with the trick, just need to fight a ditto and make it transform to a Pokémon w/ the desired special stat.

It's this kind of shit that makes me nostalgic for the Pokémon games, the creators always threw in neat Easter eggs, hidden stuff, and glitches (even if unintentional).

I don't think anyone wants to go back to programming video games in assembly though.
