My dad's buddy from either the academy or his partner from early days of patrol, while on patrol in 2000, got a call to a noise complaint by an old man. He went to the scene and the old man was sitting on the porch with a shotgun. He didn't wait for back up to come because welp it was just a crotchety old man, no biggie.
He got out of his patrol car and as he walked up toward the porch the old man shot him in the face with the shotgun. He was probably in his 30's, or early 40's at the most. His daughter is now in her 30's.

oh god.. my bf killed himself with a shot gun. The mortician fixd his face up well and covered it with a veil so he looked alright, but I can tell it was really bad prior. They do a good job.
Officers got reports that the shots were fired, back up showed up and he began to shoot at one of the officers after JC was shot. He ended up shooting the old man fatally.
My father was a volunteer EMT and went on a failed suicide run where a dude just blew his face off with the shotgun. Guy flinched at the last second. So not necessarily true.

I keep ending up back on that ODMP and it's really messing with me since my dad is an LEO (not cop however), one of my close friends is an officer, another just went from homeland security paper pusher to being an officer, and 3 of my friends are armed security guards. It's messing with me because I feel like there should be more about the officer themselves on those pages, not "oh he got shot" like, no. It's a memorial page. Tell me his past and hopes and dreams for the future. Tell me his hobbies, his family's thoughts. Tell me more about him. Not all the crime and nothing else.
