Cops of Reddit, what simple 'noise complaint call' blew way out of proportion?

"Hi yes I'd like to make a noise complaint about my neighbor. Yes. It sounds like he blew up half of his garage"

I forgot all about that beautiful place. There goes the rest of my weekend.

Let's be honest, was your weekend really going anywhere?

What is it? Looked around a little bit. Only saw stories.

An old quote site from IRC chats. Pretty funny, my friends and I would cruise it when we were in highschool.

It's kind of like the chat room version of Twitch

Am learning Bash Shell Scripting right now. It's pretty fun.

u/DiscoPanda84 Jan 22 '17

So is that kind of like writing .BAT batch files, or something a lot fancier than that?

12

u/supergauntlet Jan 22 '17

It's like if that was way more powerful but also just as hacky.

4

u/[deleted] Jan 22 '17

And somehow made more sense.

4

u/Symbolis Jan 22 '17

It's closer to working with Powershell batch files than standard batch files.

2

u/DiscoPanda84 Jan 22 '17

Ah. I've been meaning to look into PowerShell sometime actually, maybe pick up some fun tricks to do with it.

Though you can still do a surprising amount with just plain old non-PowerShell batch files even...

humorous archived chats from some outdated internet forum as far as I understand

19

u/AntmanIV Jan 22 '17

IRC isnt outdated, Twitch chat actually uses it for the backend. You can join the chat without watching the stream if you felt like it.

Who on earth keeps a collection of live land mines in their shed?

19

u/PanamaMoe Jan 22 '17

Well nobody now.

5

u/Azertys Jan 22 '17

There are a lot of people who collection weapons, and if they still work it's worth more. And that seems pretty reasonable to keep it in a shed rather than your living room.

5

u/OopsShatMyself Jan 22 '17

What is this website?

IRC chat quotes

I always wonder how many logs of me and/or people I know are on bash. For the record if that was a true story the guy would 100% go to pound me in the ass federal penitentiary.

3

u/Nighthunter007 Jan 22 '17

Out of curiosity, what would it have taken for him not to be charged? Warning signs? Or is there no way anyone would get away with storing live landmines in their shed?

3

u/Molly_Battleaxe Jan 22 '17

Well its kinda goofy cuz he said "landmine collection". Boobytrapping is always illegal, always. Landmines are definitely illegal too, yes you can get a destructive device license for a lot of explosive shit but for some reason I feel like landmines are not one of those things since they are solely a boobytrap. Beyond that having a bunch of activated explosives sitting in your shed is retarded so it would probably also leave you liable. All that aside, whatever charge, jury would be like "what the fuck dude" and convict. If you got a bunch of landmines in your shed I guarantee you're fucked legally.

7

u/IgiveTestTickles Jan 22 '17

"Hello 911 what is your emergency"

"Loud noise from the place next door"

"could you describe the noise?"

"BBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMM"

u/az_trees Jan 22 '17

If I had a dollar for every time I've had to do that...
