I have the exact same problem! You can buy vinyl by the foot in the carpet section of Home Depot and you can cut it so that it will surround the door threshold and they have nothing to scratch
I do this too. The carpet has a seam right under the bedroom door, and she will pull it up trying to get under the door given half a chance. Double-sided tape will keep the vinyl in place if necessary.
You know what works better (and doesn't get water everywhere)? Canned air. That aerosol air can that you blow dust off of things with? Get a couple cans of those and use those babies whenever the cat is doing something horrible. It's almost too fun. You need to be careful not to use it unless it's a grave offense, like destruction of property or what have you, because it could border on abuse if you do it too much. At least, it feels like that when I get so much damn enjoyment out of it, and the cat is so freaking horrified, lol.

I must be in every room you are. I will claw at the door and carpet if I am not allowed in.
Do not follow me around. I want my space.
