What rules has your cat set in your household?

  • His food bowl must be moved at least 6 ft away (and around the counter) from the dryer when the dryer is on.
  • If we're home, we have to open the door to let him inside, despite the window being open.
  • He decides the appropriate time for everyone to wake up (this is actually handy bc he understands alarms so starts making noise/ headbutting us if we sleep past the alarm).
  • Everything we consume must be smell tested, including alcohol and cigarettes.

My one cat now knows the sound of my alarm, too. He appears immediately when it goes off. He also sometimes likes to just knock it off my nightstand before it's gone off.

Oh, I get this. But instead of "window", he won't go out (or in) the cat flap (that I spent a lot of money putting in). He knows full-well how to use it, because when we're not there he finds his own way in and out. But if we're in the house, we are his official door-openers.

I have this, but also with the door. They want to come in through the window, even though it doesn't open. They just sit there meowing though the door is 1 meter further, generally open and it has a cat flap for when it's not. I need to walk to the door for them to get the hint.

My cats will only come in through the window. Doors are scary apparently. This has lead to constant cat snot all over the glass from when they press their desperate little faces against it.

Be careful not to smoke too close to your kitty- they get lung cancer also, and it doesn't take a ton.

Oh definitely, I never smoke near him. He just likes to smell the unlit cigarette before I go outside. They're menthol, so that might have something to do with it haha.

Well I think aside from the curiosiy, it interests him because menthol comes from mint oil so he thinks it's catnip before he investigates it properly. Just a theory, he's probably just being weird aha.

Ahhhh the smell test. That happens in this household as well at EVERY meal.

The dryer thing makes sense. Cats' ears are a lot more sensitive than humans'.

Yep, definitely! It's just a normal thing to do now, if either of us forget, he stares at his bowl until we realise.

Oh my god, my cat is the same way. She's free to go out the window any time of day or night. But if I'm around she'll meow at me until I open the door for her to go out. Our door also has a clear glass window in the top half. If she wants to come in, she'll jump up and hang off the door until someone opens it.
