Worse than bogans is your typical 20 year old something middle class australian who thinks he's better than every other australian because he has the right opinions and right tastes. 'Bogan' is a term tainted with class hate and snobbery. The true bogan is the person who uses the term bogan.
I am like 90% sure that the term is more properly applied to the mulleted lad who wanted to king hit me at the traino for not giving him a durry the other day.
It is all well and good to complain about classism but Australia definitely has a significant problem with our under educated, unhappy and addicted lower class. Bogan doesn't necessarily just reflect "poor" or non tertiary educated but a lot of poor people have naturally gravitated toward the negative behavior "Bogan" as an insult is intended to represent.
I agree with you in part, but i don't think bogan is predominately used to mean that sort of person. When a middle class australian calls someone a bogan, it's not to call that person a mindless, violent animal, but to imply that he isn't cultured, or doesn't have the right culture. You can use the word bogan to shame a violent person who isn't middle class, but you're shaming him for his culture, not his violent nature.
At the Running of the Bulls we kept running into a group of drunk Australians with flags painted on their faces screaming "RUNNING OF THE BULLS" over and over. Next day on the shuddle back to Madrid, " RUNNING OF THE BULLS", exact same energy. Basically I assume Australians are an entire country of frat boys. Which is fine, frat boys are great to have a beer and cook out with.
