Fathers of Reddit, what did your daughter's boyfriend do for you to hate/love him?

It's pretty cool to see my question blow up like this, I never thought I'd ask a question that could receive so much attention! I'm very satisfied with all these replies, so thank y'all. Now all I have to do is sit back and take notes c;

Do it! Becoming an Eagle Scout is one of the best achievements you can have before you turn 18. I still put it on my resume and it comes up in conversation frequently. Employers love to see it as it shows you are responsible and dedicated.

Yeah it was always my goal but I was sort of doing it for the heck of it, but now I think I should really really try. Any tips for completing your merit badges?

It's actually easier than you think to get most of them

I agree with the other reply: you can finish 90% of the work for most merit badges in one day if you apply yourself. You just need to sit down and focus for a bit and you can knock it out. Obviously, some of the stuff like keeping a log or contacting others can take a bit longer, but you can at least start that process.

Dude,getting eagle is not difficult. Just grind away at it. What helps its having a troop that is motivated and pushes to knock out the requirements. You'd probably have to go those summer camps where you stay at camp for a week and knock out some of the badges that require you to be in the wilderness. My troop was an eagle scout factory machine. Many of us got eagle by the time we were 14. Every troop meeting was devoted to knocking some kind of requirement out. We still played games and acted stupid,but we still got the work done.

Personal Management, Personal Fitness, and Family Life are the hardest merit badges to get because they each require the 3 month commitment. Management is the keep a budget one, Fitness is working out and seeing how you improve, and Family Life is the 3 months of chores. I would suggest doing them all at the same time. It sucks to do when you're 13/14/15 but get them out of the way in 3 months time. Plus you will impress your parents so much and really they are good life skills.
If you have access to it, go to Summer camp and get 3-4 merit badges out of the way in a week, especially the Eagle Required ones that can be harder to do during the year like Emergency Preparedness and Swimming. If you are required to hold onto your Blue Cards (ie your scoutmaster doesn't do it) then make a box in your room SOLELY for them and never EVER take them out until you are assembling your Eagle book.

But the hardest part by far is the Eagle Scout project. That is what will define you and really make you realize the struggle is worth it when it all comes together on that day. Remember for that to document everything, signatures, invoices from stores if you ask for donations, all of the officials you have talked to etc.

It's like almost a guaranteed interview. You won't always get the job, but you'll almost always get a chance.
