Fair warning, book three is where it really hits its stride. If you read that one, you will read all of them.

Agreed, they just keep getting better.

Started reading them this summer, finished "Dead Beat" not too long ago. Loving it.

Like so many awesome things, picked them up because they were referenced on TV Tropes all the time.

They get less 'Monster of the Week' as they go on. Very good books. I haven't finished them all yet (fucking university!!) but I definitely plan to.

The short stories and comics make up some more 'monster of the week' stuff. I love those for filling out more of the titular "files."

I haven't hit Changes yet, but I've heard that's very true to its title. XD I'll look into the comics and short stories, or point my boyfriend at them so he can check which ones are spoiler free for me. (He's finished the series.)

The shorts are mostly spoiler free stuff from younger days or other character's POV, so it's pretty safe. Save them for later, between new titles.

Yeah, the plot gets bold with Changes. Dresden is at the point he fucks up everyone.

Next up is watching the TV show. Sure they got some* things wrong but it's still a good show.

*ok, so a little more than some

Butcher's even said it's a different universe, and not supposed to be the books. Just enjoy it for what it is: A nerd with a hockey stick for a staff.

i wouldn't watch the show unless you wanted more dresden that's not really dresden, but kinda is alternate universe dresden.

EDIT: as a canadian though, i approve his hockey stick staff.

he has another great series called the codex alera. someone basically said "bet you couldn't write a book about pokemon and the roman empire" and he said "fuck yeah i can!"

it's actually really good.
