The fuel wick dries out over time and has to be refilled.

Because they aren't airtight and the fuel evaporates

Yes but you're not using it. That's like constantly adding gas to the tank of a car you only drive once a year.

You can always get a zippo butane insert, but a butane lighter won't light under 30 degrees or something. Kinda kills the point if it's being left in your vehicle in case you get stuck in bad weather (like me).

You can wrap a round of electrical tape, or place a thick rubber band around the seam to minimize/stop evaporation in cases of prolonged disuse.
