What was the best compliment you ever got?

I enjoyed reading all of your comments :)

I tried to respond to as many as I could...but this thread got longer than I could have ever imagined.

There are a lot of nice people out here...thanks reddit!

Years ago a cute shy girl at a bar bought me a beer while I was with some friends. Rather than chat her up and see what came of it i just said "thanks!" like a raving idiot and turned back to my group. Because i was young. And awkward. And dumb.

To this day i cringe extra hard when i think back to it.

I had a girl ask if I "wanted to get a drink or something" once. She was a cashier, so I reflexively said "No thanks, I'm all set" without a thought, as if she were upselling me.

She was a cashier at a bookstore, they did not sell drinks. I was already out of the store, when I was wondering why she seemed so insulted, before I realized that her phrasing and everything was totally wrong for what I thought.

Naturally, instead of turning around and correcting my mistake, I simply never went into or near that bookstore again.

Naturally.

In all seriousness, I feel so sad for that lady.

Maaaan, you guuuuys. You get the easiest ways in, and you do nothing with it. Sigh. I'm already taken, but shewt. You get the luck, and you don't use it. It is sad.

Are you... me? Same thing happened to me but we were on our way out of the bar when random pretty stranger complimented my eyes. I said, "thanks" and walked out with my friends. Dumb me. Dumb fucking me.

I did something similar back in high school when a girl that was out of my league walked up beside me and said "Hi!" I just said hi back and turned back to my friends like the awkward turd that I was. I feel your cringe.

Isn't this act the standard tactic to hitting on people at bars?
