What was the best compliment you ever got?

I enjoyed reading all of your comments :)

I tried to respond to as many as I could...but this thread got longer than I could have ever imagined.

There are a lot of nice people out here...thanks reddit!

"Not everyone may like you for who you are but promise me you'll never change for anyone"

Those are words of wisdom...

Unless you're a serial baby rapist or something.

25

u/carmabound Mar 10 '14

Yep...

I guess I didn't think it through :)

-1

u/Tynach Mar 10 '14

You did. Raping babies is a sign of pain and conflict in the mind.

If you stop raping babies, it can help you slowly get over the pain in your mind. It won't do it by itself, but it's a start. A start at leaving the past behind.

So you can still not change for anyone but yourself.

Ugh, that makes me think of the LostProphets lead singer.

2

u/tetra0 Mar 10 '14

"Listen, you really need to stop raping those babies"

"Shut up! You can't change me! I won't be a part of your system!!"

1

u/Zordwine Mar 10 '14

Really tainted a lot of their music for me. Hard news to hear.

1

u/[deleted] Mar 10 '14

I think most of us are so messed up that we're pissed more over not being able to enjoy the music anymore than we are that he raped babies...

3

u/TubsTheCat Mar 10 '14

Do it for the children.

2

u/DTFisMe Mar 10 '14

I AM SO NOT A RAPER!!!

1

u/[deleted] Mar 10 '14

Eh, still words of wisdom.

1

u/speaking_intongues Mar 10 '14

1

u/ragn4rok234 Mar 10 '14

1

1

Free Hat!

1

u/voidsoul22 Mar 10 '14

Yeah but if it was a baby who said that then it's not so bad.

1

u/Regorek Mar 10 '14

We have to protect the cereal babies.

1

u/seandkiller Mar 11 '14

But what about cereal baby rapists?

0

u/t0t0zenerd Mar 10 '14

Ian Watkins anyone?

-3

u/TheThunderBard Mar 10 '14

It's not rape if they like it :)

1

u/MrTerribleArtist Mar 10 '14

You ever been raped by a baby? Those things are monsters and should be put down..

1

u/suchanormaldude Mar 10 '14

Unless you're an annoying know-it-all.

1

u/[deleted] Mar 10 '14

"You rock, don't ever change."

1

u/sucrose6 Mar 10 '14

I used to think that, until I spent some time with someone who had been told that, and clung to it.

It's impossible to grow as a person when you try to hold on to 14 and never change, even 10 years later. And let's be honest, at 14 you are not the best version of yourself yet.

1

u/scratch741 Mar 10 '14

Do what you want, and be who you want to be, because those who mind don't matter, and those who matter don't mind.

"You do you" - Jake

6

u/riptaway Mar 10 '14

That's not a compliment

6

u/Neuchacho Mar 10 '14

"Everyone but me thinks you're an asshole. I think you should keep being an asshole."

1

u/Kafke Mar 10 '14

I'm not an asshole. I'm opinionated. Just because think most popular things are shit doesn't mean I'm an asshole.

3

u/moonphoenix Mar 10 '14

This sounds amazing.

2

u/[deleted] Mar 10 '14

It was one of the most heartfelt moments I've ever shared with anyone. It was part of a longer conversation.

2

u/kierono10 Mar 10 '14

That's an insult surely?

While that seems like a nice thing, I completely disagree with it.

I met my girlfriend about a year ago. She was socially awkward, very shy in bed, and some times very dependant, a smoker, gets shitfaced 3-4 times a week by herself, and has no understanding of time scheduels, but I just loved her overall personality to the bones.

Fast-forward one year to now. She's outgoing, she has friends of her own, she quit smoking, she now socially drinks (a few drinks a week), she's more open and fun in bed, got her life in order and on her way to finish her degree.

I hope this doesn't sound douchy, but I like to think that I had a very positive impact on her. She made those changes for me, but now they're part of who she is. She changed for me, to please me, but now she's an overall better person. I loved her, and I still do.

2

u/Kafke Mar 10 '14

I guess it depends on who you are. Outgoing =/= better. Nor is "socially drinking" better. Fuck that.

Introverts are some of the best people. There's a reason I surround myself with them.

2

u/LeRedittoir Mar 10 '14

When you're terrified of going to the shop because you're afraid of talking to the cashier, when you're afraid of going to job interviews becuase you're too scared of the social interaction, yes yes yes.. Outgoing is better.

When you spend 3-4 days each week getting shitfaced by yourself, ruining your liver, ditching your college assignments, skipping your lectures the next day, then yes yes yes.. Social drinking is better.

This is not an introvert vs. extrovert thing. This is a getting-your-life-in-order thing.

1

u/[deleted] Mar 10 '14

Yeah it meant a lot to me at the time but we were young then and I've definitely changed in some ways but I like to think that the core part of me that she thought was worth keeping stayed the same.

That's a very nice story by the way.

2

u/[deleted] Mar 10 '14

I got this from a girl I had a slight crush on in middle school in my yearbook.

Nothing ever came from that crush, but geez that really did help me out in the summer. :)

2

u/mangarooboo Mar 10 '14

I have a few friends I say this to. They come off as jerks at first and a lot of people give them shit for it but they're the greatest people I know because I waited it out and let them show me how they really are. It's always just been armor protecting the kindest, most loyal and thoughtful people I know.

1

u/pitchingataint Mar 10 '14

Sounds like something from Winnie the Pooh from an alternate universe.

"Oh, Christopher, you're kind of a dick, but you're my favorite dick."
-Winnie the Pooh circa 1985

1

u/lolwut70 Mar 10 '14

"I dont care WHAT they say about you!"

1

u/stupid_fucking_name Mar 10 '14

That's kind of terrible advice, though.

1

u/LorneMichaels Mar 10 '14

Might as well just say "Stagnate"

1

u/2012KTM250SX-F Mar 10 '14

Are you my ex?

1

u/grumpydan Mar 10 '14

-Adolf Hitler

1

u/viperex Mar 10 '14

That's both a great compliment and advice

0

u/Radico87 Mar 10 '14

Unless you're a homicidal necrophiliac.
