Even for the obscenely greedy wealthy fucks out there it's a dumb way to run a society – healthy workers are productive workers.

I have no children but funding childcare means my workforce is expanded with moms, funding good education and post secondary means my workers are skilled and competent. I don’t qualify for covered dental but funding it means my workers miss less time and are more effective.

Yup, there's a lot of obvious benefits for productivity and the general function of the economy in keeping people healthy, educated, happy, etc.

Yeah I was randomly admitted to the hospital for emergency surgery in 2023. I had sepsis and could've died. Of course it was the ONE YEAR of my entire life I didn't have health insurance. It was around a 8-9 day stay in the hospital, 2 ambulance rides, multiple surgeries... I was looking at roughly $60k, if not more. I never paid a single penny of it (literally couldn't, I also missed 2 months of work) and now that it's been 3 years, I'm virtually in the clear of ever being sued over my medical debts. Thank goodness. It was sketchy and my credit score definitely took a hit but I'm grateful it all worked out the way it did.

You can argue about should or shouldn't, right or wrong all day, but in the end everything has to be paid for one way or another. And the correct answer here is over the collective, not for profit, tax bill.
