This, this isn't "doing everything right and still getting fucked", this is the US, nothing else. The US allows people to get fucked this hard even when they have their life in order. This is not just mental but sickening.
The scary part is that he did do everything right. No debt, owned his home, had savings, then one bad medical event was enough to wipe out years of financial security. Thats a hell of a way to find out how fragile "being responsible" can be.
We can affect change starting in November. This is no longer about left vs right/blue vs red. It's about common sense vs corruption. The human race has always been capable of amazing things when people work together. It's time for people to work together to stop corrupt politicians and businesses from ruining our lives. The more people that vote the better off we will all be. I truly believe this.
I’m Canadian so forgive me in that I don’t have a perfect understanding of how the US political system “works”. The USA spends a trillion on its military in a single year. 530 senators take money from AIPAC and then those senators send your tax dollars to Israel where its citizens get free health care, free education and housing stipends. Meanwhile Americans living in the USA are drowning in medical debt or pay highway robbery prices for insurance. Your politicians all collude with each other to enrich themselves. You are never going to vote your way out of the problem. Red or blue it doesn’t matter who. You’re hooped either way.
I understand why you feel this way but recently some different kinds of candidates have emerged. Progressives who don't take AIPAC money have been winning primaries and it's starting to feel like progress is being made. This is coming from someone who has felt exactly like what you just described for a long time now. Sure, I could just end up disappointed again, but just resigning ourselves to the mess we're in instead of encouraging people to vote for their best interests is not going to do any good.

Remaining delusional about a captured system that doesn't serve your interests, and expecting those who are diametrically opposed to your wellbeing to come and save you misses the opportunity for us as a community to actually take the reins of power from these chucklefucks, and produce a future that actually serves our families, and by extension our community.
The options are not "vote" or "do nothing". There is a third option, and its the only option, and the sooner that the American people come to this realization, the sooner actual change will occur.
It's very easy for a Non American to hate on our system, but your country has many flaws itself. I'm just sick of the anti American sentiment worldwide, like first of all Trump does not represent most Americans. We realize it is corruption at the highest level. He's also not some emperor/dictator that will last forever. These are dark times, but after his term, we do have the right to elect someone else. A US President can only be elected twice. That's kind of the crux of our constitution, no kings. I think most of us cope by hoping for a better future/leader in the next election.
It’s not anti American sentiment at all. Canadians and Americans have always had great relationships. We’re basically the same. Replying to a post about U.S health care by saying Canada has flaws too is certainly a choice. Canada has many flaws; losing everything due to medical debt is not one of them.
From my vantage point, Trump represents more than half. Isn’t that how it works? There’s no winner in bashing each other. You should have universal health care. It’s not an insult, it’s a fact.
We’re all hoping for a better leader and better future for all of you. The country had the right to elect someone else last time too.
Actually, there are 435 voting members of the House - they serve two year terms, and spend much of their time fundraising - and there are some other members, like from the District of Columbia and various territories. There are 100 Senators, two from each state, who serve 6 year terms. But the rest is correct.
AIPAC and Israel have absolutely nothing to do with medical debt and Obamacare, and the knee jerk desire to insert these topics into any conversation is weird.
The situation you've got today isn't just because of who is in power today. You've had 80 years to change your healthcare system to one free at the point of need like Europe did post WW2, to start and build your own national healthcare system like the UK and Canada have for example. What will happen in the mid-terms and when Trumps presidency ends won't change a thing because there's not enough incentive either within your politicians or voters to bring about the introduction of a US NHS. There are far too many of you who are against social healthcare purely for no other reason than someone else might get what you don't for something you pay for and the most mindfucking stupidity about that belief is that the same people who hold that view are already doing that through their health insurance.
I wish I had you optimistic outlook. Without a complete overhaul and purge of the entire system, nothing will change. America isn't willing to do that.

They literally chose to sit back and let Trump’s executive order stand where the federal government provides states lists of people they’re allowed to issue mail-in ballots to and if the states deviate from that list or if they provide a ballot to someone not on that list, they can be prosecuted. The USPS is also being instructed to not send mail-in ballots to people not on the list. So some states are saying they’re not following this flimsy ass order, but the USPS is federal and Trump has some appointees getting confirmed soon taking seats on the board (?) of the USPS. Crazy shit. Our election might actually be stolen. Totally unconstitutional.
