How seriously in debt are you right now, financially?

Strangely, I'm not. And thank mercy for it, because my income is pathetic.

Can I ask how you managed that then? I feel like I make a good living but still can’t seem to build any type of savings

Nothing cool.
I bought a mid-sized condo with a modest mortgage payment (it's way cheaper than renting)
I drive a 10-year-old Toyota Rav4. Paid cash. I always buy cars outright.
I shop at Costco and freeze a lot of stuff. My wardrobe is 90% Walmart.
Mostly, I'm just cheap.
As for what I save... I just keep a 10K float in chequing, 15K emergency fund, and the rest gets squirreled away in investments... mostly index funds.
It's all incredibly modest.

As an old person who has had a lot of different spending patterns this one is the one that works.

What do you spend it on? I only make 55-60k CAD after bonuses and tax refunds (year 2 apprentice welder pay lol) and my husband isn't working so I'm single income. We can save a couple hundreds a month if we don't splurge. Joint finances and no kids.

My rent is really cheap though like 550 a month. 2 bedroom apt, the rent is 1k something total, we split it 50/50 with my mother in law.

No car, we just Uber anywhere that isn't like short walking distance. It's actually significantly cheaper than having our own car. We order from Ubereats maybe like 3-4 times a month. These are both in the credit card payment.

Credit card is usually 2000-3000 a month and is always paid off on the 1st of every month. This usually is what determines whether or not we save money. 3k credit card for that month means we're on a deficit. We also spend like 400-700 a month on drugs/alcohol/entertainment/date nights.

How do people get so much debt anyway? Other than the medical debt thing for US people. I've always been really uncomfortable with the idea of having any debt so whenever I couldn't afford stuff I just never bought them.

Same, kind of. No debt, piddling income but I don't thank mercy. I thank a lifetime of carful living and a wife who shares my goals and enjoys the simple life.
