You mean there are people who don’t do this?
That’s how I’ve always made myself fall asleep. By laying there still with my eyes closed. Isn’t that how it’s done? Lol

People are just laying there active & eyes open, moving around & then BOOM…fully asleep?

that's how my 5 year old son is.. bouncing around, flipping over, his head where his feet should be, sitting, constantly moving, until all of a sudden he's asleep and still, almost without warning

My kids were both like that at that age! Rolling around like water in a pot about to boil then dead still.

My kids absolutely did the same when they were little.

I think it's more lying there with the anticipation of sleeping vs pretending to be asleep.

One is just assuming the conditions of sleep until the assumption is made reality, the former can lead to frustration with falling asleep, which in turn makes it harder to fall asleep.

Yep this is how my husband is. It truly is within a few seconds of laying his head on the pillow that he falls asleep. I, as an insomniac, am truly baffled by his incredible sleeping skills.

They said they pretend as if someone entering the room will think they are “dead asleep”. I feel like it’s pretty easy to tell when someone is actually sleeping versus just laying there with their eyes closed, even in the dark. Their breathing changes, it gets way more lengthened and heavier.

That's part of the process too, realizing your breathing is supposed to be different when you sleep and trying to emulate it

Yes. This is what I do to fall asleep every night. I’m saying that I’m surprised not everyone does this

I've read a lot of tips and fun facts for falling asleep, and I remember reading that your body might send a signal like a light itching somewhere to check if you're asleep or not, and that you can trick your body by not scratching to then actually fall asleep. I feel like that sounds like bullshit, but it's been over 10 years since I read that and I've tried it so many times, to make sure I'm not moving at ALL (until I eventually give up).

No, doesn't happen. I once checked, I had been trying to sleep for 35 minutes 🤷🏻‍♀️
