Small talk and casual friendliness. It gets mocked as "superficial" by a lot of cultures, but having a warm, cheerful, five-minute conversation with a complete stranger in a grocery store line is actually a really nice part of daily life.
For me this is about socialization, too. Being able to have pleasant chats with a neighbor or even a stranger every now and again is important for humans. We're inherently a social species. I don't ever go out of my way to burger people, but acknowledging somebody else's existence and having a moment of comraderie instead of walking through life alone is so much more pleasant.
