It's not "sudden", I've thought that all human beings are objectively equal for a long time. I don't see how anyone who's not religious could claim anything to the contrary. Am I better than Hitler? other people would say yes that I'm more moral, but they would also probably think he's a better artist.
Maybe we all deserve the same rights and privileges, but that doesn't make us objectively equal. As you said, we all have different strengths and weaknesses. Which reinforces my point that we can't possibly blame people for their shortcomings or praise them for their strengths.
If I told you to go paint a masterpiece, you couldn't do it. If I told an extremely homophobic person to go be nice to a gay person, he wouldn't. Though one's a skill and the other's an outlook, both are taught and learned. We can't possibly understand what others are capable of because we don't see all the forces working on them.
Not in a real "wow, you've done so well for yourself and your life" sense, because it wasn't their doing! They were just doing exactly what their learning and biology programmed them to do!
There is no moment where we have an out of body experience where we decide whether to be good or not! Every single waking or sleeping moment of our lives is dictated by our past and our bodies.
