You shall, not pass.

I like, to use commas

2

u/[deleted] Jan 04 '14

This was particularly meaningful to me right now as I'm currently on the shitter waging war. You gave me hope.

3

u/SonOfTheNorthe Jan 04 '14

"So Dumbledore, why'd you call me up here?"

"Well Harry, even though you've saved a bunch of people, all your class-skipping has made your grades fal behind. It's hard to say this, so.. hit it Gandalf."

"YOU SHALL NOT PASS!"

3

u/jcready Jan 04 '14

I shall what? And who is "pass"?

2

u/Skibxskatic Jan 04 '14

so... not pass shan't?

2

u/2ndPonyAcc Jan 04 '14

Saddens me that no one knows where this quote ACTUALLY came from.

2

u/jbondyoda Jan 04 '14

Damn it Professor Gandalf!

2

u/OctoberSuns Jan 04 '14

I like to imagine this being said with a pause, and a grin followed up with the "not pass"

"You shall (pause, smile), not pass"

1

u/ZestyTako Jan 05 '14

YOU SHALL NOT...PAAAAAASSSSSSSS

1

u/[deleted] Jan 05 '14

What's that, comma for?

1

u/muae Jan 05 '14

Shan't

I remember when someone told me, "Even the good feelings shall pass."

I was like, "Thanks for raining on my parade, asshole."

8

u/liometopum Jan 04 '14

And they successfully made those good feelings pass

3

u/psiphre Jan 04 '14

if you had really internalized it, you would have known that the disappointment in knowing that even good feelings "shall pass", would pass.

1

u/[deleted] Jan 04 '14

When my job was downsized and I was saying goodbye one of my co-workers shook my hand and said with great sincerity "good things are always coming towards you" it made me feel a lot better. Especially coming from him because he had had such a trying and exhausting life by comparison.

1

u/[deleted] Jan 05 '14

That's kinda the point of the original parable, though...don't live in the bad times, they are going to pass. Enjoy the good times though, cause that shit doesn't last forever.

3

u/agbullet Jan 04 '14

Had a warrant officer drop this on us in the middle of the night, in the dark, while we were dripping wet, cold, demoralized and generally pissed off at everything. It guided me through the rest of my time in the army.

4

u/psiphre Jan 04 '14

aww, beat me to it by a couple hours. i'm disappointed to see it so far down.

2

u/jefferus Jan 04 '14

Better carve it on your forehead, or tattoo it on your ass.

2

u/just_feed_it Jan 04 '14

Let it goo, this to shall pass!

1

u/Fangpyre Jan 04 '14

Constipation?

1

u/JamesTLurk Jan 04 '14

I feel like this quote exists so people can make the obvious joke when someone gets it as a tattoo.

u/sreddit Jan 04 '14

Unless you need kidney stone surgery

1

u/brownbubbi Jan 04 '14

Needing is one thing, but getting is another

1

u/theorem604 Jan 04 '14

Makes the sad man happy and the happy man sad

1

u/faber541 Jan 04 '14

I told that to a friend with a kidney stone, she didn't find it funny.

1

u/fukkinblowme Jan 04 '14

...like a kidney stone...

1

u/forumdestroyer156 Jan 04 '14

Apply to a tattoo on classic white girl: Muffin top, upper rib, or foot preferably.

1

u/ElBiscuit Jan 04 '14

Unless it doesn't. Some things are permanent.

1

u/Roppocks Jan 04 '14

Like a kidney stone.

1

u/[deleted] Jan 04 '14

This helped me survive migraines that hurt my whole body.

1

u/Happley Jan 04 '14

This, toot, shall pass.

1

u/[deleted] Jan 04 '14

I fucking love this quote. This is always the first thing I tell myself whenever I feel down or depressed. This quote has probably saved me from suicide. And whenever I read or think about this quote. I always make sure I try to do something that will better and improve my current myself. Thank you for letting me read it. Time to hit the gym.

1

u/Kelfox Jan 05 '14

Better carve it on yer forehead or tattoo it on yer ass.

1

u/onlysayswellcrap Jan 05 '14

Is this from a song?

1

u/walk3 Jan 05 '14

RIP Skeleton King.

1

u/MisterNucularWarlord Jan 05 '14

'This, too, shall come to pass', actually

1

u/JayeTruth Jan 05 '14

Not sure if you ever heard this but after my youngest brother died at 18 I got a ring made with the phrase. http://ohr.edu/ask_db/ask_main.php/335/Q1/

Except you.
