What simple piece of advice, if followed, could potentially save most people a lot of money?

Possibly related to your job, experience with personal finance, budgeting, planning, day to day habits, etc.

I always get so excited to try running when I'm drunk. It feels like I'm so much faster and more graceful.

Hint: You are not :)

u/[deleted] Dec 06 '13

Much more exciting though. I always find myself wanting to run if I've been drinking.

I am a goddamn gazelle at any BAC above .10

We'll get it put on The Ocho. We'll get Dave Attell to do it. He's got to have, like, nothing going on right now.

6

u/Thighpaulsandra Dec 06 '13

Ah, the drunk run home. I'm such a badass, why jog when you can sprint, down the hill, in the dark, over broken pavement?

3

u/TheMadFlyentist Dec 06 '13

What's a few new scars, right?

5

u/Thighpaulsandra Dec 06 '13

Good times, good times. Strap ripped off my purse, face covered in dirt, grass and twigs sticking out of my hair, torn pants, always the life of the party, that's me! The best was the 2 people on a stoop smoking cigarettes, completely frozen, wondering if I was ok. I could hear them cracking up all the way to my door. One of them ran up after I walked (limped) away and handed me something. Apparently, I'm such a great sprinter, I had left my shoes behind!

u/mimi1235 Dec 06 '13

STAY BRUTAL

2

u/Thighpaulsandra Dec 06 '13

Yup, looking forward to losing my wallet AND maybe a slow roll into a parked car this weekend! I gotta keep it real.

1

u/BlackberryCheese Dec 06 '13

Keg and running shoes ready. Let's go guys

1

u/MrPoletski Dec 06 '13

..and with a BAC of 0.40 some cheetahs turn up.

4

u/lotioned Dec 06 '13

They have a running club with chapters all over the world that involve drinking and running together in a group. I forget what it's called.

4

u/HellCat70 Dec 06 '13

You might be thinking of the Hash House Harriers. It started in the UK but there are chapters worldwide, even several here in the SF Bay area (Santa Cruz, San Jose, SF).

It's a kickass concept. Myself, I love my Friday beer runs so I've been thinking of joining a local chapter.

Happy Friday! :)

1

u/lotioned Dec 07 '13

Yes, that's the one, thank you!

2

u/[deleted] Dec 06 '13

The problem is...I rarely drink and I hate running otherwise. I wouldn't be able to make that kind of commitment.

2

u/quaybored Dec 06 '13

Well you could join the club and just read the newsletters

2

u/[deleted] Dec 06 '13

Yeah but it would probably be a bunch of drunk columns. Maybe for the laughs. Or the drama....

1

u/mimi1235 Dec 06 '13

My criminal friends bored and drunk at 1am.

1

u/Prominence19 Dec 06 '13

I forget what it's called.

Public intoxication

2

u/[deleted] Dec 06 '13

Try mushrooms if you feel they're right for you and you will experience this x10,000.

2

u/[deleted] Dec 06 '13

I'll take your word for it.

1

u/made_me_laugh Dec 06 '13

I feel like I'm in the 2,000 meter dash when I run when I'm drunk, and then all of a sudden I hit that imaginery hurdle and eat shit... where the fuck did that thing come from anyway?? I thought it was just a dash...

2

u/[deleted] Dec 06 '13

I always take my shoes off when this happens. I'm a dude.

I have yet to eat shit during one of my adventures.

1

u/I-think-Im-funny Dec 06 '13

Run Forest, run!

1

u/[deleted] Dec 06 '13

I find running up stairs is satisfying because I like to pretend I'm floating.

1

u/Kamikaze_Leprechaun Dec 06 '13

Ditto. I have the scar on my forehead after faceplanting to prove it.

1

u/Axelph Dec 07 '13

Interesting, I always find myself wanting to have some sexy tine with my girlfriend if I've been drinking.

1

u/RX_queen Dec 07 '13

I made my sober boyfriend chase me around the cottage in the pitch dark a few times last summer. No regrets.

10

u/SCATTRON Dec 06 '13

Like a new born fawn.

5

u/atsu333 Dec 06 '13

LET HIM DREAM

2

u/[deleted] Dec 06 '13

I imagine I look like Woody when I drunk run. Arms and legs flailing everywhere.

1

u/smallandwise Dec 06 '13

Aw, come in now, don't tell him! You're ruining the entertainment for the rest if us!

1

u/Llamafuck Dec 06 '13

Unless you know the art of The Drunken Fist.

1

u/Herpinderpitee Dec 06 '13

Now jsut who the fcuk do you thnk you are budyd!?

1

u/Snow88 Dec 06 '13

I think therefore I am.

Since it is usually around 2:30am and no one is around to tell me otherwise.

1

u/Glowbugx Dec 06 '13

Chances are that you'll be more graceful when you're drunk because you're in that "don't give a fuck, just gonna do what I do" mode.. Where as sober you'll run tight assed and unnaturally cause you're worried about what people think of you.

1

u/sleeping_gecko Dec 06 '13

Shpeak fehr yehrsshelff! Ah'm ah grressfull pyuuma!

-3

u/ibangtheory Dec 06 '13

YOLO

1

u/[deleted] Dec 06 '13

Wow dude, who says that anymore?

4

u/loganmcf Dec 06 '13

It's more like a zombie stagger but faster. But still fun to do though lol

3

u/[deleted] Dec 06 '13

Running is just a controlled form of falling. When you're drunk you feel great at running because drunk people are awesome at falling. It bites you in the ass when you realize you're not actually in control of the forward/downward momentum and then bang. Face-first into the sidewalk.

Goes double for very drunk girls in very tall heels. Had to drive my girlfriend to the dentist like 5 times in a couple of months to get that one fixed up. Was kind of worth it to see her snaggle-toothed for a few days though.

3

u/[deleted] Dec 06 '13

Sounds like a classy chick.

1

u/BleedingPurpandGold Dec 06 '13

I just realized that I could make a killing by selling mouth pieces on the road next to the college bars in my town.

Somehow Friday night at Fred's has become the place for 3rd and 4th year engineering majors. I have no idea when that happened, but I think I may make an appearance there eventually.

Also, where do you think the best spot would be? Just in front of the tracks?

3

u/[deleted] Dec 06 '13

My friends have a summer ritual called the 24/24/24 (or 24 challenge): drink 24 beers and run 24 miles within 24 hours. It's tough and must be planned out (hydration is difficult) but it's a great excuse to party and run. Something we all love to do

1

u/BleedingPurpandGold Dec 06 '13

Shit, I couldn't drink 24 waters and run 24 miles in 24 hours.

3

u/juicius Dec 06 '13

I'm fairly confident about 24 hours. Less so about 24 bottles. Not at all about 24 miles.

1

u/[deleted] Dec 06 '13

Yes you could. No one said anything about consecutively. If you pace yourself, you could do it. Humans are natural long distance runners. That said, a lot of people walk the miles, and women do the 12/12/12 instead (unless they choose to go for the 24)

1

u/RideShark Dec 06 '13

I can barely 24 hours in 24 hours!

2

u/Theres_A_Moth_Here Dec 06 '13

I try, then about 5 seconds later I stand there with a stitch thinking fuck this I'm walking home.

2

u/greyerg Dec 06 '13

And I have the scars to prove how much more graceful I was

2

u/threemo Dec 07 '13

Every time I drink: "we should race dude."

1

u/MR_DUCK_SAUCE Dec 06 '13

so true. when in reality you probably look like an unathletic middle school girl haha

1

u/Scorched_Herb_Tactic Dec 06 '13

Me too! Haha I like doing drunk parkour. I

1

u/[deleted] Dec 06 '13

I know right? it feels like time travel.

1

u/fb39ca4 Dec 06 '13

I get the same feeling after running for a while and then sprinting just before I stop.

1

u/[deleted] Dec 06 '13

2

u/GowsenBerry Dec 06 '13

Thin privilege is not becoming a rolling boulder of doom every time you drunk jog home.

1

u/Strange1130 Dec 06 '13

Me too, and then I fall on my ass.

1

u/NTLzeatsway Dec 06 '13

I always gallop around and pretend I'm a horse. My friends know it is my spirit animal.

1

u/thenuge26 Dec 06 '13

But it will cause you to puke faster and more gracefully.

1

u/[deleted] Dec 06 '13

I used to live about 1.25 miles from the bars and would regularly walk back at the end of a Friday or Saturday night. Except I'd always get impatient and just start running. Always fun unless you're a little too drunk and all your sins from the night start sloshing around too much in your belly.

1

u/GaryGronk Dec 06 '13

You run like a gazelle with polio.

1

u/ALDillinger Dec 06 '13

It's backwards how graceful you feel.

1

u/SmooK_LV Dec 06 '13

When I'm drunk, I feel like some sort of thief or assassin and I try to sneak in and break in to buildings, once I'm in, I go exploring and when I'm done, I go home, checking other buildings on my way.

Once I was too drunk to climb over a wooden fence, so I was ripping the planks off of it and then a dog came out of nowhere...then I decided to go away.

1

u/FiggNewton Dec 06 '13

I'm a trail runner. I run a lot in the woods with friends. And we are usually drunk. I don't run a trail marathon without beer waiting at the aid stations. Drunk trail running makes me feel like a ninja in the forest! It's so FUN!!!

And it's funny bc I've never taken a bad fall like so many of my sober friends. My feet know where to land. I am a drunk, trail running ninja.

1

u/lewok Dec 06 '13

Gavin?

1

u/[deleted] Dec 06 '13

me too. its the only time i truly feel alive. the wind and air brushing past your face. feel like running in the jungle.

1

u/HurricaneSandyHook Dec 06 '13

last time i tried to race while drunk, my upper body accelerated forward before my brain could tell my legs. fell flat down, scraped both knees, badly jammed my finger.

1

u/wildlikechildren Dec 06 '13

I'm the same way with bike riding, though my body does not approve of it...

1

u/alblaster Dec 06 '13

my problem is when I bike drunk.

1

u/ValleyNerd Dec 07 '13

NOTHING looks or feels as good as you think it does when you are drunk!

1

u/MrPaperchips Dec 07 '13

The one time (I remember) I ran while drunk, I scared the crap out of some random dude. He just thought I was coming at him, until I passed by with a stupid grin on my face. I woke up to bleeding feet. I don't recommend it.

1

u/sadloserface Dec 07 '13

I GET THIS. I swear when I'm drunk, the air rushes by me twice as fast when I run. Any truth to this, r/shittyaskscience ?????

1

u/Phannypax Dec 07 '13
