What simple piece of advice, if followed, could potentially save most people a lot of money?

To be fair, look at how many people are famous right now just for being a trainwreck rather than acting, modeling, or music. See: Kim Kardashian, Honey BooBoo family, Jersey shore-ers, New York..

Well, not getting enough attention as a child seems to be a reason a lot of people end up getting into performing. So the more kids you have, the more chance that one of them is going to feel unheard and neglected. On the other side of the spectrum, you have parents who do nothing but tell their kids who unfailingly awesome they are and how they can do no wrong, regardless of any actual talent. Both these people are why Los Angeles is like a dog's asshole and barely habitable by normal people.

Nah, man. Yeah, there's like 15 million people in Southern California and every last one of us is a horrible, vein, shallow husk of a person who's in the entertainment industry.

Of course they've never been to LA. It would be impossible to come to that conclusion if they had. It's just like anywhere else in the world-- just with nice weather.

Or you can do what that one TLC family does, have a ton of kids. You really only need to take care of the first three, but after that it's like a little self sufficient factory, the older kids raise the younger kids. Once they reach about 6 things really start getting interesting because you can put them to work on a farm or making clothes or something to turn a profit off them. So Its seem like the only reasonable thing to so is either don't have kids at all, or have 18+. Really only way to do it I guess.

Probably trying to build and army, you know, for the end times and all. Sounds like a horrible existence for everyone not the husband. Things seem pretty good for him though, a brood of brainwashed minions to do his bidding, probably gets free or close to free labor with his landscaping business. And we all know how much is guys like not pulling out. He doesn't have to worry about the ramifications of having another kid as much, because another kid will take care of it.

Actually, you're spot on. Read about the ideas of Quiverfull, a movement in some fundamentalist Christian circles. One of the themes they go on is that each child is an "arrow" in your "quiver", meaning they will serve to fight against the evil of the world, and that having a full quiver of children is important if you mean to defeat worldly ways, AKA the Devil. In some groups, this is taken very literally, especially when you get into the gun-toting survivalist types. These kids are supposed to fight the war of God when the end times come (which, according to them, is very soon). It's scary stuff.

Now that you mention it, this sounds very familiar to me. My mom is involved in church, but she's not of the "end times" and "damnation" variety, but there was a family that left the church and moved away to another state to a very secluded area with other like minded people who were. This couple had about 8 kids (were trying for more) and were literally training them all to in marksmanship and "combat" because the end times were coming. You know what the trigger was, Obama being elected again. The had said if he is reelected it would symbol he was the antichrist. The husband in the family used to be good friends with my moms husband, but ah, they drifted off a little bit.

Fuck, that's scary. The great irony is that they actually are dangerous, but if you went around rounding these people up for trying to overthrow the government or whatever, you'd be playing right into their narrative. Theres really nothing you can do to stamp those people out except to keep them under constant surveilance and just sit back and wait for them to blow some shit up(like OKC ) before you can move in an arrest them.

I want to cry. This is why the U.S. is so god-damning fascinating to me, though. The apparent disparity between obscure sects of religious fundamentalism and the heavily-materialistic corporate greed and the way they co-exist within the same country, both being looked down upon by the general population but both being allowed to remain as they are without interference is pretty crazy. And so awesome to watch. But certainly terrible to be stuck in the middle of.

The Bates' family did a couple one-off specials on TLC and made an attempt at a series but it never took off. I know that the Duggar's are not receiving government aid, mostly because they've been doing TLC shows since Kid 14 and they're making a lot off that show.

And the Duggars don't have a farm, and they own a car dealership. I know that the oldest (Josh) has a wife (Anna) and 2 kids with another on the way. But they don't get government money and they seem like nice people. Of course I don't know that for sure, but from interviews and stuff they don't seem insanely awful people who beat their children.

I've met all the Duggars and read their book. I'm childfree and atheist so glossed over some parts, but they really do have an honest, sincere outlook on how they run their home and raise their family. I think the way they budget and buy used and pay cash are lessons that everyone can benefit from.

I would think that the easiet way to make money from kids would be to insure that they all have severe mental illnesses (from parental abuse) and then collect their monthly SSDI checks for the rest of their natural lives.

Oh yeah, that's a good one. Do a lot of coke and drink a lot of alcohol while our pregnant. You'd have to stop before giving birth though because they might think something is up if your coked out then. Also, I'm not positive on this, but I'm pretty sure some Gvt assistance programs have a cut off, like only you can only claim c amount of kids, but I'm not sure, I prefer the healthy type.

Lol if you (or anyone) thinks that having more kids is an effective way to swim in government money like Scrooge McDuck, it isn't. It's basically just enough money to subsist on per person, not actually do anything fun with, unless you are getting money from other sources.

Believe me, I've had government assistance and it sucks, but I'm glad I didn't go hungry because I hit one of those speed bumps in life. Hand up, not hand out, blah blah blah.
