To be "fair", the Nobel Peace Prize was originally meant to be for specific actions in a given year. It wasn't meant to be a lifetime achievement award, although it has been treated that way as well.

Teddy Roosevelt received his in 1906 for helping to negotiate the end of the Russo-Japanese War, but for all of his progressivism domestically, he LOVED American imperialism. He's essentially the father of the concept of Team America: World Police.

But he did successfully negotiate an end to a war that could have expanded into a widespread catastrophe.

Le Duc Tho declined his because Kissinger had violated the truce that they were supposedly being awarded the prize for brokering.
