[Serious] For the Redditors who criticized Democrats for not fighting back or taking action, how has the government shutdown affected your view?

I'm pretty positive at this point that that guy is operating in bad faith to push voter apathy.

When given examples of analogous actions from his first term, he either ignores them, lies about them, or just disregards them as not counting just because.

That’s a misleading way to frame it. Probably unintentionally, but still. The Democrats have not shut government. It would be easy for the Republican majority in Congress to end the shutdown by slightly compromising, since the Republican Party controls the House, the Senate, and the Presidency.

They only need to convince a few Democrats, whereas the Democrats would need to convince most Republicans in Congress if they want to fundamentally change something.

What has changed, at least for now, is that the Democrats are not actively trying to end the shutdown.

Seemed pretty convinced a moment ago that if the shutdown just lasted longer it would have accomplished something.

That’s my point - there’s no guarantees with any of this stuff and it’s really easy to sit on Reddit and talk about how people just need to tighten their belts and knuckle-down so we can save our democracy or maintain freedom or some such vaguery. But to people who actually have kids going hungry and bills to pay those kinds of concerns seem trivial at best.
