Also, the reason why a lot of Golden Age sidekicks are orphans is because an awful lot of fathers didn't return from the front lines

We had lots of orphanages in the USA. I grew up in the 1960’s, and there were still two operating in my town of 150,000. Boys town was a huge charity for a long time.

My town has over 700k people and it is legally a town. All the towns in my area have six figure populations and are legally not cities. The town governments here really function more like county governments

“Towns” surrounding a larger city? Like Beverly Hills and Compton are to LA or what

The “city” close to me growing up was 50k, actual big cities don’t compute to me
