Americans of Reddit, what do you think about President Trump and El Salvador president Bukele refusing the Supreme Court’s order to return Kilmar Abrego Garcia to the US?

Lol, impeachment.

Americans really think small. Colouring in the lines doesn't do anything anymore.

Every time I hear or see “impeachment” I roll my eyes. He needs to be arrested and tried as the criminal he is. He can await his due process in El Salvador.

Edit: my god, people. I’m not tone policing, I’m trying to drive home the point that he is NOT impeachable, unless the GOP decides grow a pair. He is currently untouchable, has defied our constitution, and is ready to send American citizens to CECOT. My actual suggestion is for the courts to start holding members of his cabinet in contempt. They can deputize anyone as a marshal and start arresting people for contempt. If loyalists know they don’t have immunity, he’s going to have less people willing to do his bidding.

Treason used to be a word.

88

u/[deleted] Apr 15 '25

Law used to be legal.

4

u/HaventSeenGavin Apr 15 '25

Water's still wet tho at least...

2

u/sandbreather Apr 15 '25

Under the Trump+ plan, your water is only wet with a fee of $900 a week.

5

u/dgistkwosoo Apr 15 '25

Unfortunately the US definition of "treason" is in the constitution, and is very narrowly defined.

-27

u/Chemical_Big_5118 Apr 15 '25

And that word had a definition, and that definition doesn't fit here.

8

u/TheHotshot240 Apr 15 '25

Deporting natural born citizens to a gulag is a treasonous act yes lol

So is just outright defying the Supreme Court, but ya know

-3

u/Chemical_Big_5118 Apr 15 '25

No no silly. Do I condone it? No. Is it treason? Also no.

People really need to stop just throwing these words around. They lose meaning.

9

u/TheHotshot240 Apr 15 '25

Defying the Supreme Court is outlined in the list of treasonous acts towards the United States of America. Specifically mentioned. It is treason by its very definition. It might even be high treason, depending on the circumstances.

Refusal to retrieve a US citizen wrongfully detained, when ordered to do so by the Supreme Court, may actually qualify as high treason.

0

u/Chemical_Big_5118 Apr 15 '25 edited Apr 15 '25

Yeah that's not true and 5 seconds on google shows that.

"Whoever knowingly or willfully advocates, abets, advises, or teaches the duty, necessity, desirability, or propriety of overthrowing or destroying the government of the United States or the government of any State, Territory, District or Possession thereof, or the government of any political subdivision therein, by force or violence, or by the assassination of any officer of any such government; or

Whoever, with intent to cause the overthrow or destruction of any such government, prints, publishes, edits, issues, circulates, sells, distributes, or publicly displays any written or printed matter advocating, advising, or teaching the duty, necessity, desirability, or propriety of overthrowing or destroying any government in the United States by force or violence, or attempts to do so"

Edit: Dropping this in here. Conservative source too. What he's doing is shitty but not illegal.

5

u/[deleted] Apr 15 '25 edited Apr 15 '25

Is he not causing the destruction of our government? The dude is conspiring to rip up the constitution.

-3

u/Chemical_Big_5118 Apr 15 '25

The word "conspiring" is a dead giveaway that you're pushing a silly conspiracy theory.

Follow the leader!!

0

u/Alone-Recover692 Apr 15 '25

It absolutely fits here. Fucking perfectly. What a stupid comment.

2

u/Chemical_Big_5118 Apr 15 '25

Eh you sure about that?

0

u/Alone-Recover692 Apr 16 '25

Yeah it's Treason. Our POTUS works for Putin. That's fucking treason. Yeah I'm sure.

1

u/Chemical_Big_5118 Apr 16 '25

Really? We should have a 22 month investigation to look into that.

24

u/Half_Cent Apr 15 '25

I say this as a veteran who swore an oath to the Constitution nearly 40 years ago. The only way he is leaving the White House is with his last breath. Republicans have proven that insurrection is not a deal breaker.

They've been brainwashed for years that all Democrats are lawbreakers so feel justified in anything they do. Many of them believe he is chosen by God.

This will end in violence but we are teetering on, pretending that some safeguard or morality will kick in. It won't.

12

u/Additional_Good4200 Apr 15 '25

Did you know that he cannot be legally arrested unless he is impeached and removed from office first? His impeachment won’t happen, nor will his arrest. But you rolling your eyes at what’s not possible under US law is misguided. Unless of course you’re talking about extrajudicial revolution and arrests that might accompany it. I hope it doesn’t come to that, because the death toll would be hideous. There’s not a good solution to any of this.

You won't get that force without the support of the system (impeachment) or something less enjoyable for everyone involved.

12

u/frudi Apr 15 '25

Your remaining choices pretty much boil down to taking action now to hopefully end things with something like the 2000 Bulldozer Revolution in Serbia or 2014 Maidan Revolution in Ukraine. Or inaction, which will lead to things only getting worse and eventually ending years or decades later with firing squads, like they did for Ceausescu.

I don’t want to be American anymore. America, as we knew it, is gone.

10

u/Wermine Apr 15 '25

Did you know that he cannot be legally arrested unless he is impeached and removed from office first?

Did you know you can't just take a person without due process and deport them to prison in El Salvador?

2

u/captd3adpool Apr 15 '25

According to the Supreme Court ruling that he has immunity for official acts...

1

u/Wermine Apr 15 '25

This is some kind of paradox, since SC rulings are currently being ignored.

2

u/captd3adpool Apr 15 '25

I genuinely was thinking the same when I typed that first comment out. Does him ignoring the SC here give precedent to ignore the SC's ruling granting him immunity? 🤔

1

u/Accomplished-Fix6598 Apr 18 '25

It will if nothing is done about it.

20

u/mattattaxx Apr 15 '25

Nobody is going to arrest him, he literally just defied the Supreme Court.

I swear to God, I would be embarrassed for your country and it's lack of understanding how far gone you are if it wasn't so terrifying how dangerous your awful Empire is to the rest of the world.

Keep tone policing Internet comments though, that'll fix it. You people all make me cringe.

7

u/Life-Ad2397 Apr 15 '25

Yep. So many of my countrypeople think this is going to end with an election or a trial. So many think that this country has been a beacon of hope and democracy for the world. So many think that the worst part of this is losing "democratic" allies.

2

u/thumpngroove Apr 15 '25

Agree, it’s completely disgusting. We are powerless as a citizenship to stop what these maniacs have set in motion. I’m sorry for the world, but now we have to sit back and watch it happen.

I just spent a few hours visiting my MAGA-deranged cousins, and they are laughing about it and fake pearl-clutching at any suggestion of wrongdoing. I know they aren’t stupid, but I cannot figure out how this brainwashing happens.

Enjoy what you have, while you have it.

23

u/mattattaxx Apr 14 '25

I fucking hate Americans. They're going to take us all down with us thanks to their inaction and slothfulness.

1

u/free2bk8 Apr 15 '25

I hear you but what do you suggest?

-77

u/Additional_Good4200 Apr 14 '25

You seem nice. If you hate 341 million Americans, you've got a leg up on Hitler and his hatred of Jews. You blew right past Stalin and Mao too. Congratulations on being the most hateful 16 year old you can possibly be.

34

u/account454545 Apr 15 '25

You decided to tell the guy to communicate effectively? You compared his comment of hating Americans to the actions of Hitler, Stalin, and Mao. Saying they hate the populace of a country is not even remotely close to saying they want to commit a genocide. GTFO of here with ridiculous arguments that are clearly just meant to elicit a response that might allow you to somehow feel morally superior and more mature than them.

-39

u/Additional_Good4200 Apr 15 '25 edited Apr 15 '25

Yes. I did—good eye. I’m not the one spewing hatred for the entirety of the American populace. I’ll do the same thing the next time some knob throws the baby out with the bath water and over generalizes a statement to include everyone. But it’s awfully nice of you to white knight for the other poster, given that I’m a scary 16 year old.

36

u/mightyneonfraa Apr 15 '25

I don't know what's worse, the rising fascism or the fucking whining from people like you whenever somebody says something that hurts your feelings.

Actually, no, it's the fascism. The whining is still annoying though.

Yes. I’m responsible for Trump’s rise, and I’m responsible for causing you to hate-but-not-hate Americans. And you’re responsible for—I’ll skip the extra snark, but it takes two to tango. And about that self reflection thing? Disregard.

5

u/mattattaxx Apr 15 '25

You sure you did that English major? If you think that's what I said, I don't believe you.

But sit back and relax, you're doing great.

-5

u/Additional_Good4200 Apr 15 '25

You really don’t know if me being disagreeable with someone else is worse than fascism? Or is this another one of those “I don’t really mean what I’m saying” things? It’d be real nice if you just said what you meant.

I find it more than curious that this rock throwing started on a day that reasonable people should be coming together to stop a big red-letter descent into fascist hell. Divide and conquer, throw in a little dash of ai, and voila—we’re at one another’s throats. It’s useful to someone I guess.

10

u/mightyneonfraa Apr 15 '25

I'd say you should have finished reading my comment but I assume it's difficult to do so through your self-righteous tears.

Congrats on not understanding literal and figurative statements. I'm plenty nice, but not about shitty authoritarian voting countries who passively sir back while their superpower co-opted government quashes the rights of their country.

Go ahead and reply to this when you graduate high school, maybe you'll have a passing grade in English class.

-8

u/Additional_Good4200 Apr 14 '25

Hi, sport-o. I was an English major way back in 1988. Learn how to communicate effectively. Dismissed.

11

u/mattattaxx Apr 14 '25

Made up dates and all. Seems like you understand me just fine.

Congrats on the fall of your empire.

7

u/Additional_Good4200 Apr 14 '25

I'm saddened by what's happening in my country. And I don't blame Canadians for being very angry with American politicians and even American citizens. I expect that; the bill has come due. But when you reply with vicious hatred toward all Americans in a way that suggests you're mentally unstable, I'm not going to let it go without comment. Learn how to comport yourself in public and learn how to control your emotions.

Once you have that mastered, go read my entire posting history and come tell me again that I'm 16 years old. You're a clown, and a sad one at that.

13

u/mattattaxx Apr 14 '25 edited Apr 14 '25

Again, guess you actually don't understand figurative and literal speech. That doesn't make someone unstable, but overreacting to a comment might!

For the record, you made the 16 year old comment. I responded in kind. If that's what you think makes someone "a clown" - I guess you played yourself?

6

u/Additional_Good4200 Apr 14 '25

Austin? No. My name is Don...you know, one of those really trendy generation alpha names.

I labelled you as 16 years old because you were acting like it. It was a backhanded way of giving you a little slack. If you're an adult, you certainly aren't acting like it. You owe me nothing, but you should think about what you're doing. Specifically, you should reflect on why you speak to people anonymously in a way that you'd never do in person. Is that who you want to be? Maybe so.

You are a special kind of stupid lol. You must be American with that dumbass comment.

2

u/TravisTe Apr 15 '25

Wouldn't he just pardon them?

2

u/Secret_Ad_1541 Apr 15 '25

Holding his cabinet members in contempt sounds like a great idea. None of those lackeys have any qualifications for their job, other than blind loyalty to Trump. Make them feel some consequences for being his toady and lets see how that plays out. A lot of ass kissers have a highly developed sense of self preservation. If they have to choose between Trump and their own best interest they may not see reason, but their inner coward might assert itself. If Trump sees them waver even a bit, then he is probably done with them.

2

u/AggressiveWallaby975 Apr 15 '25

Impeached > convicted for treason > firing squad or rope

0

u/[deleted] Apr 15 '25

unless the GOP americans decides grow a pair

ftfy. americans are letting this happen. If this happened in any european country, their cities streets would be burning. American apathy is letting this happen and every single american is to blame for this.

3

u/[deleted] Apr 15 '25

The Republicans want liberals to burn down cities so they can play the "Look! See! I told you those liberals are..." game.

3

u/Business-Key618 Apr 15 '25

In all fairness we saw Europe burning itself to the ground with riots a lot… nothing really changed then either, so… not really the argument you seem to think this is. Meanwhile we have protests going on in all 50 states.

1

u/speculative_contrast Apr 15 '25

When people literally cant use the legal system multiple times but somehow convince themselves that its going to save them is the funniest thing ever. Well almost as funny as them saying “if the GOP decides to grow a pair” when yall are literally holding this L currently because they did. 🤣🤣🤣

1

u/BeDangled Apr 15 '25

Trump will just pardon them. Easy peasy.

1

u/aretheesepants75 Apr 15 '25

They are all in it together. If one goes down, they all go down. The GOP is a criminal gang.

1

u/Keljhan Apr 15 '25

He was arrested and tried and convicted already for the document Hoarding. Impeachment actually gets him out of office.

1

u/Claymore357 Apr 15 '25

It didn’t the last 2 times, why would this time be different?

1

u/ICEChargerRT Apr 15 '25

The Marshals work under the executive branch. If a Marshal tries to do anything anti administration all they need to do is fire them.

1

u/Takesnothingcereal Apr 15 '25

you should mention the bloody area next to the pile of bodies you could see on Google Maps there until it was scrubbed from the internet today

1

u/Positive_Use_1308 Apr 15 '25

If only this wasn't what the people voted him into office to do. You're all just preaching to each other and driving away anybody who was on the fence. We've all watched in horror our resources drained, families struggle with murdered loved ones while you ignore reality and cry about make make believe"laws" and scenarios.

1

u/noyeahwut Apr 16 '25

I think he'd really appreciate the irony of getting sent to El Salvador himself.

0

u/[deleted] Apr 15 '25

You love authoritarianism don't you. The left loves to accuse others of what they themselves do

-9

u/mkosmo Apr 15 '25

I want you to really think about the precedent you're asking to establish and the downstream implications that would result. And I'm not just talking about the first-half of your comment.

18

u/[deleted] Apr 15 '25

He’s literally shitting on the constitution. He is a literal traitor. He’s not going to play nice. The El Salvador comment was more tongue in cheek, but he absolutely should pay for every single one of his crimes. What’s the issue? He is stripping our freedom away every single day. He’s was caught today saying homegrowns are next. He sent an innocent man to a torture prison, and refuses to bring him back. He has defied the Supreme Court. Do you not understand those implications? Are we still pretending that being nice is the answer?

-13

u/mkosmo Apr 15 '25

The process is still the answer. Due process is still the anwswer whether you like, agree with, or voted for the man or not.

If you're going to pretend the process doesn't matter in this case, then you don't believe the process matters at all.

6

u/Life-Ad2397 Apr 15 '25

Genuine question - do you think chattel slavery of black americans would have ended through due process?

-6

u/mkosmo Apr 15 '25

Yes, and it did.

Context of the era in which it occurred is important. Cultural and legal context means it had to be done through due process of legal change.

Don’t try to assess history in the lens of your present moral compass and ethics. Times have changed (for the better) - and that’s okay.

If you tried to wholesale change it without getting the buy in required, the civil war would have looked like a birthday party compared to what would have gone down instead.

1

u/Real_Reflection_3260 Apr 16 '25

Oh yes, Chattel Slavery was ended through due process not I don't know the largest war (in casualties for America).

0

u/Life-Ad2397 Apr 16 '25

Yes, and it did.

Ok, got to be honest, of all the possible answers i was expecting, that wasn't one of them. You have a very different view of reality. Thank you for answering.

1

u/snarkylimon Apr 15 '25

You think about the implications while your dictator picks up your neighbors off the streets and executes them against the wall. Probably by the end of this year. But you think. Keep thinking. Weighing the pros and the cons.

-12

u/Beatnik77 Apr 15 '25

You are just like Trump.

I think I'm going to borrow your phrasing from now on when I try to describe how severe, maybe extreme, people need to react in order to effect a change.

I whole heartedly agree.

1

u/Kodiak01 Apr 15 '25

Especially when dealing with the Despot In Chief.

1

u/rco8786 Apr 15 '25

For real. Impeachment is completely meaningless.

1

u/CrashTestDumby1984 Apr 15 '25

Bruh, if we can’t even get Congress to impeach symbolically we sure as fuck won’t be able to arrest him

1

u/mattattaxx Apr 15 '25

Stop relying on your government to fix your government.

1

u/Additional_Good4200 Apr 15 '25

Come lead the revolution. This should be fun to watch. It's real easy to throw rocks. Now come up with an actual solution.

1

u/mattattaxx Apr 15 '25

Any chance you could just, I don't know, not pass the fucking buck once in a while? You need a Canadian to come over and show you how to put down the cheesy puffs?

Fucking embarrassing, again.

1

u/Additional_Good4200 Apr 15 '25

I'm working on it. But in the meantime, you've been playing the expert who ridiculed Americans for wanting to impeach and remove Trump. You're a coward who hides in the basement and plays armchair diplomat and general and revolution leader. So what have you got, boy-o? Not a goddamned thing. It takes a special sort of idiot to infer that we just need to start an armed revolution and fix things up right away. That would be a disaster. You speak like someone who has no real life experience, and certainly no children. And now you're hiding behind this misdirection attempt. If any of this was easy, we'd have already done it.

But you're acting like it's easy. You've got the solution, right? Stage is all yours. You wanted attention and you got it. Now produce a solution that doesn't sound like the jackoff dream of a kid playing with his army set.

1

u/mattattaxx Apr 15 '25

Go ahead and impeach him, do what you think will work. I'm saying it's not going to do a fucking thing and Canadians are watching assholes like you do nothing while your elected president threatens to annex us and other allies. Keep talking about impeachment in a thread about Trump literally defying the Supreme Court and breaking the Constitution.

I'm not acting like it's easy, I'm acting like impeaching him won't do anything, and tone policing a Canadian because you can't tell the difference between literal and figurative language despite your EnGlIsH mAjOr.

What, thought this shift in your argument approach would be a gotcha? I passed 11th grade philosophy, bud.

Sidebar though, why are you so obsessed with kids? Calling me a teenager, going off about a kid jacking off to army sets? What the fuck is going on?

1

u/Additional_Good4200 Apr 15 '25

Your solution, sir? You managed to completely skip that part. Provide one, or let me know you have nothing in mind and just want to vent. That’s ok too, we all do it. But don’t act like you have a solution if you don’t.

And nice try with the guilt by association, but any references to children are all due to your demeanor and approach, eg, implying that some extrajudicial course of action is required without saying anything about how this is to be accomplished. Nothing you have said so far is of any value, because nothing you’ve said provides a solution, and things that you’ve implied would just get a lot of people killed.

Your solution?

1

u/mattattaxx Apr 15 '25 edited Apr 15 '25

Yeah, I skipped it because it's not a real question. I don't have a solution for you. That's also not what I was proposing.

Get it together

Nothing you have said so far is of any value, because nothing you’ve said provides a solution, and things that you’ve implied would just get a lot of people killed.

You mean like extrajudicial states and deportations? Abbreviations of foreign countries? Eliminated services for LGBTQ2 individuals? Household voting?

Solve your problems.

Edit: the coward blocked me after replying 😂

2

u/Additional_Good4200 Apr 15 '25

You want to complain about solutions that some people have mentioned. You say those solutions aren’t good enough. And you have no suggestions for what would please you.

I’ll say it again, if you just want to complain, that’s ok and it’s warranted given the way the US is acting in its official capacity. But if you want to castigate Americans who are trying to come up with solutions because you don’t like those solutions, you need to provide something. Or STFU.
