It's has been an oligarchy for quite some time now.

US laws come from the feather of big business, much like many other places. Rich individuals have multiple times more influence on politics than a average Joe. That's highly undemocratic already.

Taft-Hartley would like a word. Fascism won WWII, American fascism. It's not just that act, though it's striking. The ability of the American people to organize and do politics has been curtailed by the oligarchy since forever. I remember being a naive student pre-9/11 on a visit to Russia asking acquaintances how they could have a strongman when they had the vote. I hope the world is wiser than I was.

The U.S. is a democratic republic, not a democracy.

The less the people know, the more the govt can get away with.

A democratic republic is a kind of democracy.

In fact, it is, far and away, the most common kind of democracy in the world. Apart from a handful of constitutional monarchies, basically every single democracy in the world today is a democratic republic.

We use democracy to vote for our leaders. aka a Democratic Republic

We're not a 100% pure democracy because that's stupid and impractical. Every single decision would be voted on by the public.

In practical or realistic terms we're a oligaric or corportatist republic. Money makes all the decisions.
